Research institute at Mannavnur plan to take large-scale breeding of sheep

As the Central Sheep and Research Institute at Mannavnur near Kodaikanal is planning to take up major research work for increasing the population of Bharat Merino and Avikalin variety sheep whose wool is used for jackets, overcoast and carpets.

Senior scientist A S Rajendiran said that they sought Upgradation of laboratory facilities and latest equipment for large-scale breeding of Bharat Merino sheep, as it was necessary to maintain the grazing area of the sheep.

The shortfall in cotton production 2015-16 season in the country has forced leading buyers of Pakistani textile and commercial sector to make import contracts for 300,000 cotton bales with traders in South Africa, India and with USA for prime cotton grade (PIMA) during May-June 15, 2016.

According to senior member of Karachi Cotton Association (KCA), exporter, importer and ginner Ghulam Rabbani, they expect to import more than 1.5 million bales of various qualities amounting to $24.3 billion till end this year.

A textile company in Bhilwara region of Rajasthan on Wednesday received orders for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) to stitch their new uniform, khaki trousers for the RSS instead of the thigh cut shorts.

The small textile company received orders to stitch 10 lakh new RSS uniforms.

The RSS has brought change in their uniform with the reason that the organization wanted to follow the fashion trend so that more youths could be effectively recruited.

The first change in the RSS's uniform was brought about in 1939, when the Khaki shirt was replaced with white shirt.

The Department of Rural Industries, Government of Chhattisgarh, is going to provide skill up-gradation training to silk weavers at four block handloom silk clusters- Baloda, Navagarh, Dabra and Babnidih in Janjgir-Champa district, to promote handloom silk industry, said Deputy Director of Directorate of Rural Industries Chhattisgarh A Ayaz.

The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India has sanctioned six handloom clusters for the state.

Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) a textile sector body urged for Centre's intervention to check the soaring prices of cotton in the last two months which has resulted in unbearable loss to the industry.

In a letter to Union Textiles Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) Secretary Prabhu Dhamodharan said that the per candy rate, which was Rs 35,000 two months ago, had skyrocketed to Rs 41,000 for medium staple cotton but neither the farmers nor consumers benefited due to the rise.
