Powerloom sector demand reduction in products reserved for handlooms

Power loom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL), Chairman Duraisamy is of the view that the number of products reserved for handloom textile item has already been reduced from 21 items to 11. But for the products that require intricate skills, the restriction must be lifted for other items for which the handloom sector is unable to meet the demand.

The power loom sector in the region has voiced its demand for further reduction in the number of products reserved for handloom textile items.

The Zimbabwean cotton sector has over the years taken a nosedive due to the plummeting prices of the commodity on the international market, which has resulted in farmers shunning the crop. Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that Ethiopian investors have expressed willingness to invest in the Zimbabwean cotton sector and hence the government will take the lead in ensuring that the cotton industry is revived.

He said that government will fully invest in the sector especially on the beneficiation thrust before opening the sector to foreign investors.

US apparel industry to grow 20pc in four years

According to a CNBC report citing a Goldman Sachs studying profiling consumer trends in America, US apparel and accessories sales growth are poised to increase by a steady 20 per cent over the next four years compared to less than 10 per cent just six years ago.

Nylon yarn price softens in Asia

In China, semi-dull FDY70D/24F and FDY40D prices were both down US cents 1-2 a kg in the first week of June.

Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices were down US cent 1 a kg while 30D/10F prices fell US cent 1 a kg on the week.

Monofilament 30D prices edged down US cents 4 a kg while 1.5D staple fiber also fell US cents 4 a kg during the week.

Nylon filament yarn prices were stable‐to‐soft on the back of firm nylon chip and caprolactum cost. With low operating intentions against weak buying interest, sales and production were under pressure.

Caprolactum price remains stable to weak in China

In China, offers for liquid spot were quoted flat in the first week of June while solid goods offers were hiked during the week.

Asian markers, the SE and FE markers fell US$10-20 a ton. Sinopec raised its June nomination to US$1,540 a ton for liquid goods while Fibrant nominated June up at US$1,550 a ton for liquid goods.

High end goods nomination for June had not been released.

Caprolactum prices were stable to weak over that week on back of moderate demand and range bound benzene cost.

Five Export Sectors' Associations in Multan have urged the Federal Minister for Finance and the FBR chairman to immediately issue the notification for zero-rated regime for export oriented textile industry, so that exporters could make shipments as per announcements in the federal budget.

The value-added export sectors are waiting for the issuance of the SRO or notification of the decision, as they have to prepare export shipments as per the rule "no-payment, no-refund".

Kwara State Government signed a $56 million investment deal for the establishment of Kwara Chitex textile Industrial Park in the state with a Chinese investor.
