Pakistan government being urged by textile value added sector to bring down the cost of all the essential utilities at par with the regional competitors to increase the country’s exports to $35 billion by 2018. The country needs to increase exports with approximately 30 percent growth every year until June 30, 2018 and with 30 percent growth every year the exports will reach to $27 billion in 2016/17 and $35 billion in 2017/18.

Export of cotton-based readymade goods, among the highest foreign exchange earners among textile products, dropped by two percent in 2015-16, from $37.1 billion in 2014-15 to $36.2 billion; while cotton fabrics declined a little more than four percent. This was part of the larger trend of a fall in merchandise export, down for a 17th continuous month in April.

Apparel Export Promotion Council head Ashok G Rajani said that the high price of domestic cotton, coupled with heavy duties on import of cheaper Chinese varieties, have hampered production of cotton goods.

Polyester yarn prices fall in India, up in Pakistan

In Shengze, offers for 32s polyester yarn rolled over in the last week of May, and 45s were stable during the week. In Qiangqing, 32s weaving were unchanged on the week.

Offers for spun polyester yarns were steady that week in China, as demand was hard to improve amid insipid demand. Some players had rigid demand to replenish goods while sellers reported slow payment collection.

PTA price moves down in China amid mute buying interest

Asian PTA marker was down US$3 a ton CFR China in the last week of May. The CFR Southeast Asia was assessed flat from last week, while CFR India was up US$2 a ton on the week.

In China, offers for bonded goods dropped to US$600‐605 a ton, with bids on the either sides of US$590 a ton.

Purified terephthalic acid markets were mixed in Asia with weak prices in China while India remained firm and CFR Southeast Asia assessed flat from last week.

India, the world’s biggest producer of cotton has nearly halted cotton exports as local prices have rallied due to tight supplies because of drought. The price rise could subsequently push up fabric and clothing prices and put pressure on the margins of garment makers. This has also forced key importers like Bangladesh, Pakistan and Vietnam to turn to other suppliers.

The freeze in Indian export will prompt Brazil, Australia and United States to raise shipments and has pushed global prices to near their highest since August.
