Tirupur garment manufacturers to explore use of wool

Tirupur Garment manufacturers, 150-odd manufacturers, who attended the “Wool workshop” organized by The Woolmark Company at Velan Hotels in Tirupur last evening signaled their interest to explore the possibility of enlarging their market with the use of woollen yarn and wool-blended fabric in the manufacturing process.

Blended yarn price remains stable in China, Pakistan

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s and 45s yarn prices were both down US cent 1 a kg in the last week of May due to weak currency.

In China, blended yarn prices remained relatively stable in the week as cotton prices moved higher while polyester prices dropped a bit.

Demand for domestic yarn was relatively weak with import prices rather unchanged and the price difference between cheaper domestic and imported yarn reducing.

Viscose yarn market weakens amid lackluster performance

In Jiangsu, 40s compact sirospun yarn prices fell US cent 1 a kg in the last week of May while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan rolled over during the week.
Demand for viscose yarns remained relatively weak in China, in line with a fall in apparel exports to US and Europe.

Viscose spun yarn markets continued to dampen the sentiment amid lackluster performance except for core‐spun yarn sector. This was despite upward movement in VSF prices over the past few weeks.

Uganda to focus on reducing textile imports of the country

Yoweri Musevni, President of Uganda, stated that their country spends $888 million (Shs 2.991 trillion) on annual textile imports. He added that development of the domestic textile industry is needed in order to reduce the textile imports of the country.

Hence, the President urged the government institutions in the country to buy Ugandan-made products to support the domestic industry and stated that they are of good quality as well as price competitive.

Huntsman appoints new President for Textile Effects division

A global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals, Huntsman Corporation, has appointed Rohit Aggarwal as president of Huntsman’s Textile Effects division, effective July 31, 2016. Aggarwal will succeed Paul Hulme, who will retire as president of Huntsman’s Textile Effects division, a position he has held since 2006.

At present, Aggarwal is Huntsman's Vice President and Managing Director of Indian Subcontinent, a position he has held since July 1, 2015.

Blended yarns export sees growth again, value up 11.2%

India’s blended spun yarns export value was up 11.2 per cent YoY while volumes rose 19.5 per cent as compared to the same month last year.

5.9 million kg of PC yarns was exported from India during the month. Polyester cottons yarns were exported to 53 countries in April 2016, of which, Bangladesh and Egypt were the largest importers of PC yarn from India followed by Colombia.

Turkey, Honduras, Spain, Brazil and South Africa were the fastest growing markets for PC yarns while South Korea significantly reduced its import of PC yarns from India.

Polyester yarn price moves down in China

In Shengze, offers for 32s polyester yarn were down US cents 3 a kg in the third week of May while 45s were down US cents 2 a kg. In Qiangqing, 32s weaving offers were stable on the week.

Offers for spun polyester yarns in Shengze market were lowered partially, while some sporadic specs saw moderate sales. Run rate was not so high on back of poor margins.

With unsmooth sales, buying interest were very low, and players just bought goods to meet rigid demand.

PTA price gains in Asia, stable in Europe

Asian PTA markers gained US$3 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast in the third week of May.

In China, bonded goods were pegged in the range of US$600-603 a ton as buyers showed low interest at above US$610 a ton. There was a spread of US$10-15 a ton between enquiries and offers for nearby-month goods.

Purified terephthalic acid prices were stable to higher in Asian markets amid firmer paraxylene cost while demand remained sluggish demand with ample supply.

ASF prices steady despite climbing upstream cost

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices rolled over in the third week of May. Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow was offered at US$1.55-1.65 a kg while offers for regular products were traded at US$1.50-1.55 a kg, both unchanged from last week.

Acrylic staple fibre prices remained range bound that week, although upstream acrylonitrile cost has been climbing steadily over the past few weeks. Firming ACN prices also meant cost support to ASF makers.
