As global consumers are becoming more and more cautious on environment and global retailers are looking for suppliers of apparel produced in eco-friendly factories. Bangladesh’s apparel manufacturers have entered into sustainable manufacturing practices by establishing eco-friendly factories and introducing energy-efficient latest technologies to give a cushion against carbon emission.

Sustainable manufacturing refers to the creation of manufactured products through economically-sound processes that minimize negative environmental impacts while conserving energy and natural resources.

Prices improve modestly as needy mills took interest in fresh buying

At cotton market as some needy mills took interest in fresh buying, with improvement in volume of business, prices also improved modestly on Saturday, dealers said. According to the market sources, mills and spinners showed their interest in fresh buying to meet requirements.

The official spot rate recovered overnight loss by Rs 50 to Rs 5,550, dealers said.

In ready session, around 5000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 5500 and Rs 5750.

As demand for dissolving pulp for textile purposes is increasing globally driven by population growth and rising prosperity along with a shift toward textiles that offer a more sustainable alternative as of mid-May, Södra has produced 500,000 tonnes of dissolving pulp at its pulp mill in Mörrum, Sweden, said Magnus Björkman, Marketing and Sales Director at Södra Cell.

Trading activity at cotton market on Friday witnessed prices failing to maintain firmness as mills and spinners kept on the sidelines in the absences of motivating factor, dealers said. Market sources said that main buyers were on the sidelines after news started reaching that new cotton crop arrivals are expected in middle of June.

Heat wave and early sowing helped cotton crop mature early, the ginners who have nearly 200,000 bales with them on expectations of better return were upset.

During the trading session in lint market, prices remained under stress condition due to selective buying. However, buyers in Sindh and Punjab stations bought all grades on cautious note as grade issue was continued. Traders offered all grades of lint on bargaining rates at around Rs 4,975 per maund to Rs 5,375 per maund in order to capitalize maximum returns on their proceeds, floor brokers said.

While, traders at the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) said that grade-conscious buyers made deals on slightly higher price on Thursday.

APTMA signs DoI with German Ministry for sustainable textile industry

The All-Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has signed a Declaration of Intent (DoI) for a sustainable textile industry across the value chain with the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation (BMZ) on Thursday.

APTMA Punjab Acting Chairman Syed Ali Ahsan and Country Director GIZ Dr Ulrike Reviere signed the DoI on behalf of their respective organizations. A website www.spc.org.pk was also launched to create awareness on Sustainable Production Centre.
