Turkmenistan seek foreign investment to further expand its textile industry

Turkmenistan over the years of independence has seen increase in cotton fiber processing from 3 percent to 51 percent. Also the country’s cotton yarn production has increased 2.4 times from 2000 to 2015 and cotton production 4 times.

The country aims to raise foreign investment to bring further expansion in its textile industry for which they intend to create the most favorable conditions for investors and also introduce, new technologies.

At present, Turkmenistan has more than 70 enterprises producing cotton yarn, cotton, terry, denim, knitted fabrics and knitwear

Textile manufacturer Arvind Ltd’s e-commerce division Arvind Internet has launched NNNow.com, its first omni channel fashion strategy that will integrate its physical stores, online platform and warehouses, expects to garner 10-15 percent of its business from online sales in the next three to four years, said Kulin Lalbhai, executive director of the company.

Currently their brand revenue is Rs 3,000 crore and they expect this revenue to grow to $1 billion (Rs 6,700 crore at the current exchange rate) by 2020 The brands business is growing 20 per cent CAGR.

ASF price rolls over in Asian markets

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices rolled over in the second week of May.

Anqing Petrochemical and Qilu Petrochemical nominated 1.5D cotton-type fiber at 12.45 Yuan a kg (US$1.91 a kg) and 12.05 Yuan a kg (US$1.85 a kg), respectively.

Acrylic staple fibre prices managed to remain range bound in Asian markets although downstream buying interest was low for lack of bullish signs and positive expectations.

Acrylonitrile price gains amid tight supply

Asian acrylonitrile marker, the CFR Far East Asia gained another US$15 a ton in the second week of May while Southeast Asia was up US$29 a ton. In China, spot prices inched up on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asia further headed north as supply remained tight in due to several turnarounds. Thai PTT plant went offline from 10 May for a month shrinking supply in the region.

Uganda, Bangladesh set to sign MoU to trade in textile and jute

Uganda and Bangladesh the two countries plan to share information and technology on trade where Bangladesh will be extending its textile and jute products to the country for which they are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Mr Mahmood Hudda, the Honourary Consul of Bangladesh in Uganda, said that the exportation of jute products to Uganda is timely as the country moves from plastic packaging to biodegradable materials.

They are also looking at the Trade ministry to look into tax exemption on importation of jute to facilitate the trade on duty free basis.
