UK are looking at partnership programmes with Andhra Pradesh in traditional textile and educational relationship besides a few other areas in this State, said Alan Gemmell OBE, Director of the British Council in India, who was in the city on Wednesday as part of his introduction visit to the southern States where the British Council can collaborate on wide-ranging issues.

Accompanied by Andrew McAllister, Deputy High Commissioner, British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad, and a few other officials, Mr. Gammell had a meeting with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

Bangladesh has seen increased garment exports to 11 new destinations since 2009, including Japan and China, partly because of the government’s financial incentives for new markets. The stimulus package has been working well, said Mahmud Hasan Khan, vice-president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.

The two new markets Japan and China are promising markets for Bangladesh. Garment exports to China and Japan, soared in fiscal 2015-16 — the strongest sign yet of the growing stature of Bangladesh’s apparel sector in global trade.

SVP Global Ventures, a part of the Shri Vallabh Pittie Group and a diversified yarn manufacturing company, has commissioned fully automated textile plant with one lakh spindles having manufacturing capacity of 22,000 tonnes per annum at Jhalawar in Rajasthan.

Mr Chirag Pittie, Managing Director of SVP Global Ventures said that this is the fastest constructed textile plant in the world having completed the work in just about nine months on 25 acres of land. It is also among the first few plants to be commissioned under Resurgent Rajasthan project.

ASF price remains stable in Asian markets

Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow offers were flat at US$1.55-1.65 a kg while offers for regular products rolled over on the week. In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices remained unchanged on the week in Yuan terms but down US cent 1 a kg, due to weak Yuan.

Acrylic staple fibre prices were kept stable in China and India seeing producers maintained unchanged offers. Upstream, acrylonitrile prices rose, providing cost support to ASF markets. Downstream buying interest remained subdued, as yarn and fabric sales were dismal due to slack season.

Acrylonitrile price jumps on tight supply in Asia

The CFR Far East Asia, the Asian ACN marker, was up US$5 a ton in the first week of July. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were stable during the week. Acrylonitrile prices inched up further in Asian markets that week as supply in Northeast Asia remained tight due to various plant shutdowns. In China, spot markets softened slightly that week, though majors offered flat.

Thailand’s Ambassador Suchart Liengsaengthong disclosed at a meeting with Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Vice President Nasir Saeed at the chamber on Monday that the two countries, Thailand and Pakistan are in the midst of talks on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which is expected to be signed by the end of this year.

The Cotton Corporation of India, (CCI) had earlier predicted higher cotton acreage for 2015-16. Now, the total cotton output of India is also expected to be a dismal 352 lakh bales, compared to the 380 lakh bales a year ago. As the national cotton acreage has come down from 128 lakh hectare to 118 lakh hectare between 2014-15 to 2015-16, as per the latest CCI statistics.

The provincial government of Philippine has tapped the assistance of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) a non-government organization that represents the German government in development cooperation all over the world to revive the abaca industry of Negros Occidental.

Last month, the Provincial Government sent a letter to the agency after one of its personnel manifested GIZ’s willingness to assist the abaca development project in the province.
