ITMA Asia and CITME to attract interest of around 1,600 exhibitors

Combined textile machinery shows ITMA Asia and CITME 2016, this year’s show has attracted interest from around 1,600 exhibitors and are expecting approximately 100,000 trade visitors which is schedule in October to be held in Shanghai.

CEMATEX is the owner of the combined show, together with its Chinese partners – the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT-Tex, China Textile Machinery Association (CTMA) and China International Exhibition Centre Group Corporation.

Cotton market witnessed price soaring to a seasonal high for new crop

As panicked spinners continued to book big-lot deals to meet their rising demand amid improved exports, cotton prices hit to a seasonal high for new crop on Thursday at cotton market.

The local market also remained highly volatile as slow arrivals of phutti (seed cotton) failed to meet a surge in cotton demand from spinners, influenced by global factors of a big gap between demand and supply, brokers said.

Most deals in Sindh variety cotton were transpired at Rs6,350 per maund (around 38 kilograms) and that of Punjab quality at Rs6,400 per maund.

TN textile mills cut production capacity over sharp rise in cotton price

Following the sharp rise in cotton prices, small and medium textile mills in Tamil Nadu (TN) with a capacity of up to 25,000 spindles have reduced production by about 15%-20% since the beginning of the month as losses continue to mount. Tamil Nadu textile mills account for about 46% of the total installed spinning capacity in the country.

Mills are losing about Rs 15 per kg on yarn. This has come even after two rounds of price increases by mills that resulted in yarn prices going up about Rs 20 per kg since April.

Polyester yarn price edges down in China, Pakistan

In Shengze, offers for 32s and 45s polyester yarn were both down US cents 2 a kg in the last week of June due to weak currency. In Qiangqing, 32s weaving were down US cents 2 a kg on the week.

Polyester spun yarn markets were calm and steady that week in China while offers were stable for 32s and 45s, with the latter seeing better demand and sales.

PTA price moves up in Asia

Asian PTA marker, the CFR China rose US$1 a ton CFR China and up US$7 a ton CFR Southeast Asia in the last week of June. In China, offers for nearby-month goods were at US$640 a ton, and counter offers were below US$620 a ton.

Bangladesh garment exports exceed target set in FY2015-16

Bangladesh garment industry generated $28.09bn exports in the fiscal year 2015-16 which just ended, registering a 10.21% growth from the previous year. The data officially released yesterday showed that the earnings also exceeded the target of $27.37bn set for the year. Of the total figure, the knitwear constituted $13.35bn and woven products $14.74bn, according to Export Promotion Bureau data.

US fashion brands remain committed to buying Bangladeshi garments

Dhaka has cast a big shadow over the garment industry’s future, especially as the victims included several Italians employed in the fashion trade. But the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety, which represents more than two dozen North American fashion brands and retailers, said that its members remained committed to buying garments from Bangladesh.

A group of mostly US-based fashion brands and retailers took pledge on Wednesday not to turn their backs on Bangladesh’s crucial garment industry, despite a series of deadly attacks by Islamist extremists.
