Blended yarns market sees stability

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices were down US cent 1 a kg in the last week of August while 45s PC combed yarn prices were stable on the week. 32s PV (65/35) rolled over during the week.

Blended yarn prices were generally stable taking cue from minor changes in manmade fibre prices while cotton prices still edged lower. Manmade fiber prices in China were relatively stable with polyester flat and viscose rising mildly on the week. However, import prices were still below domestic prices for blended yarns.

The industrialization ministry and the Swakara Board of Namibia plan to commission a feasibility study on the setting up of wool processing plant in Namibia which could process as much as 360 000 tonnes of wool. The study is expected to cover wool processing such as grading, scouring, drying, carding and felting.

The study will also determine the number of Swakara sheep, and a minimum acceptable farm-gate price for raw wool in Namibia comparative in southern Africa, amongst other things.

The Apparel Export Promotion Council is organizing a nation-wide drive to spread awareness about the new special advance authorization scheme announced by the Centre last month, so that all exporters can take advantage of it, said Ashok Rajani, Chairman, AEPC.

The garment exporters from India pay on an average an import duty of five percent in the EU when countries such as Bangladesh pay zero duty, the additional reimbursement in the form of the special advance authorization will help to bridge the gap. In the US, the import duty on garments range from nine percent to 20 percent.

Cotton prices remain firm amid strong demand from spinners, who were keen to replenish their stocks ahead of Eid-ul-Azha holidays at cotton market on Friday, dealers said. The official spot rate stayed unchanged at Rs 5,850. Some brokers said that after a long-time, prices halted decline.

In Sindh, seed cotton prices were at Rs 2800-3050 and in Punjab rates of Phutti were at Rs 2500-2900, as per 40 kg, they said. In ready business, around 15,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 6000 and Rs 6100, dealers said.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. after its investigation found the Indian textile giant, Welspun India Ltd couldn’t guarantee the products were legitimate has decided that it would stop selling Egyptian cotton sheets made by Welspun.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Marilee McInnis said that Welspun has not been able to assure them the products are 100% Egyptian cotton, which is unacceptable.

India’s cotton stock dwindling raises concern for textile mills

India, the largest producer of cotton but its closing stock for the 2016-17 cotton season (October-September) is projected at 13 lakh bales (a bale is 170 kgs), the lowest in five years. The country doesn't have sufficient surplus cotton however strong exports are leading to forced imports at high prices at end of the season. Hence their core advantage is getting eroded, said Sanjay K Jain, chairman, Northern India Textile Mills' Association (NITMA).

H&M Foundation with HKRITA to develop tech to recycle blended textiles

H&M Foundation, the Swedish retailer’s nonprofit arm which has committed to collecting used clothes in stores in an effort to keep them out of landfills and give them a second life has teamed up with the HongKong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) to develop the required technologies to recycle blended textiles into new fabrics and yarns.

The four-year partnership aims to create a commercially viable and scalable technology that can be licensed widely to ensure broad market access and maximum impact.
