Polyester yarn price falls in China, up in Pakistan

In Shengze, offers for 32s polyester yarn fell US cents 3 a kg in the last week of August, and 45s were down on the week. In Qiangqing, offers for 32s weaving were down US cents 3 a kg during the week.

Spun polyester yarns prices weakened in China as there was no improvement in sales that week. Producers in Zhejiang were shut for G20 summit and will restart in succession mid next week. Prices retreated in Shengze amid thin transaction while offers in Qiangqing were lowered and producers sold goods in sporadic volumes.

PTA price edges up in Asia, down in US

Asian PTA markers edged up US$1 a ton CFR China in the last week of August. In China, offers for nearby-month goods felt to US$605-610 a ton, and buyers countered offers was at US$600 a ton.

Purified terephthalic acid prices were stable to softer amid thin trade in Asian markets. Upstream cost support also eased with paraxylene cost moderating somewhat. Yisheng Petchem shuts its Ningbo plant for G20 while it has planned turnaround at Hainan unit in September.

Punjab state likely to see cotton price touch Rs6,000 per quintal

Despite the reduction in area under cotton in Bathinda and Mansa districts. This year the cotton farmers have a reason to smile as the price of their yield is about to touch Rs 6,000 per quintal. This year has seen a bumper crop following control of whitefly. Last year, the price of cotton yield went much below the MSP, following which, Diwali turned black for farmers.

In Mansa, farmers have got Rs 5,800 for a quintal of cotton yield while in Bathinda, the farmers have got about Rs 5,750 per quintal. Farmers in Mansa district have got the highest rate to date for their yield.

The quality of this year's cotton has dropped across all the districts in the Western Zone of Tanzania. Only Meatu, Maswa and Bariadi districts in Simiyu Region have produced quality cotton, according to the recently released figures reflected business conducted between June 21 and September 1, this year, said Mr Kisinza Ndimu, the Principal Ginnery Officer of the Tanzania Cotton Board (TCB).

At least 120,000 tonnes of cotton has been bought from farmers in the Western Zone, where 99 percent of the country's cotton is produced annually, the cotton board has confirmed.

India's cotton yields have fallen from 566kg per hectare in 2014 to 504kg in 2016 which is already among the world’s lowest. Fall in yield is due to delayed rains and white fly problems in northern India and pink boll-worm attacks in Gujarat. As a result, raw cotton production is expected to fall to a five-year low of 33.8 million bales in the year to Sept.30 from 38 million bales a year earlier, and cotton prices have jumped from $1.50 to $2 a kilogram. A bale of cotton weighs 170kg.
