The Pakistan government had allocated Rs. 6 billion for Textile Policy initiatives for 2016-17 while support schemes would also continue during this year which include Sales Tax of five export oriented sectors namely textile, leather, sports goods, surgical goods and carpets had been made part of zero rated tax regime from July 1, 2016.

Further, all the pending sales tax refunds till April 30 whose RPOs have been approved, will be paid.

In the process of improved business activity at the cotton market, official spot rate declined further on Wednesday. The official spot rate was down by Rs 100 to Rs 5950, dealers said. Mills made fresh deals on declining rates.

Prices of seed cotton in Sind and Punjab were at Rs 2500-3000, while in ready business, nearly 30,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 5800-6200.

The Telangana state government seeks support of the Centre in set up Japan Industrial Township at Medak in the proposed National Industrial Corridor Development Authority (NICDA) which will immensely increase the investment competitiveness and attract more investors from the Asia Pacific region.

The setting up of NICDA between Central government and Japan is in the offing, which will be finalized in October, mostly before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed tour to Japan in October or November.

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices rolled over in the fourth week of August. Sinopec released August settlement prices for 1.5D ASF pegged at 12.60-12.70 Yuan a kg (US$1.90-1.91 a kg) and 3D tow at 12.90-13.00 Yuan a kg (US$1.94-1.96 a kg, down US cents 3 on the upper end).

In US, acrylonitrile domestic price rose to one-year high amid stable export and limited spot supply in the fourth week of August which ended on 26th August 2016. The market was quiet due to lack of available spot. Domestic assessment was up US cents 3.5 per pound USG on the week.

Asian markers, jumped US$50 a ton the CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia in the fourth week of August. In India, the CFR values climbed on the week. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were up US$50 a ton CFR. Acrylonitrile prices rose across the board that week in Asian markets as supply remained tight.

Pakistan’s textile machinery imports have surged by six percent to US$44 million in the first month of fiscal year 2016-17 on last year, as per new statistics from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

On a monthly basis, textile machinery imports in Pakistan went up from US$42 million in July 2015.
