Reda Italian high end fabric and clothing manufacturer based in Biella in northern Italy recently presented a business plan outlining its future wool requirements. The manufacturer will be doubling the amount of wool it buys in the next six years, mainly benefiting the Australian wool growers.

Of the 22,000 bales of greasy wool it uses, 80 percent is sourced from Australian wool growers. However, superfine wool prices in Australia have been at their highest in more than five years.

In China, offers for ring‐spun 30s weaving yarn in Xiaoshan were flat in the last week of January, while compact siro‐spun 40s yarn in Jiangsu was up US cents 2 a kg on the week. Viscose yarn spinners gradually wrapped up their business in China that week, indicating growing holiday atmosphere. Offers for viscose yarn were generally mixed with some specs rolling over while some gaining.

In China, yarn markets were generally shutting down for Lunar New Year holidays while imports continued rebounding in recent months.

Due to strong demand, cotton prices touched a record level of Rs7,300 per maund (around 37 kilograms). Phutti prices also rose to a seasonal high of Rs3,850 per 40kg. Limited stocks of around 900,000 bales held by ginners were insufficient to see the season through because the next crop is not expected before June or July.

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) to help the Dye and Dyestuff clusters in Gujarat plans to set up a Common Research and Technology Development Hub (CRTDH) on Chemical Processes at its campus that will help dye-industries meet the pollution norms and take an environmentally safer growth path.

The CRTDH will develop a Chemical Process Technology Lab along with a pilot plant facility which will demonstrate the process intensification, waste reduction and enhanced effluent treatment technologies developed at IITGN.
