Vietnam textile urged to improve and enhance in global value chain

The foreign direct investment (FDI) firms has greatly contributed to Việtnam’s economic growth, accounting for around 70 percent of national export turnover while domestic enterprises has not yet deeply involved in the global value chain, according to Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) former director Le Dang Doanh.

Nylon yarn prices roll over in Asia

In China, FDY70D/24F SD prices were stable in the last week of January while FDY40D were flat at on the week. DTY 70D/24F prices rolled over while 30D/10F were steady during the week. Monofilament 30D prices remained unchanged on the week.

Nylon filament yarn makers had trimmed operation as demand slowed down due to Lunar New Year holidays in China while prices remained unchanged on the week. Nylon yarn producers had hiked offers last week to relieve cost pressure.

Caprolactum price jumps in Asia

Asian caprolactum prices were up US$50 a ton SE and FE markers in the last week of January while East European goods were stable on the week. In China, offers and trading values were firm during the week.

Caprolactum markets remained firm in China amid thin trading as the Spring Festival approached during the week and trading activities had mostly ended. Mainstream offers and trading values were firm. Sinopec raised its February contract nomination for liquid, AA grade, goods, mainly from Baling Petrochemical and Baling Hengyi.

Slow trading activity witnessed amid high cotton prices and the absence of demand for cotton yarn and fabrics at cotton market on Monday. There was little trading interest from the outset which continued till the end of the session, brokers said.

The Karachi Cotton Association’s spot rates were firm at weekend level.

Rising imports of cotton also slowed down trading on the domestic market. Brokers said that big spinners have already booked 2.2 million cotton bales for imports and have already purchased higher quantity of around 9m bales from domestic market.

Punjab's cotton belt is back to normal in crop output and rates having faced the worst-ever crisis due to the widespread whitefly attack in 2015. Till February 3, cotton arrivals in the state were recorded at 5.72 lakh bales (one bale = 170 kg). Moreover, increase in cotton prices steadily adding to the profits of Malwa's farmers. Raw cotton, which fetched Rs 5,100-5,300 per quintal in the last week of December 2016, rose to Rs 6,000 per quintal in first week of February.
