Taiwanese firm responding to Trump’s advocacy to start production in U.S. One of the Taiwanese firms, Everest Textile Co, a subsidiary of the Far Eastern Group specializing in functional fabric production by the middle of next month at the plant bought by the company in North Carolina to start production and repurposed the production lines.

Everest said that the North Carolina plant would mainly manufacture fabrics, although some of the production lines would produce ready-to-wear garments.

Pakistan local cotton markets witnessed about 10.63 percent increase in cotton arrival during the first week of February 2017 as compared to the arrival of 9.612 million bales during the same month last year, an official in the ministry of textile industry said on Friday.

By February 1, 2017 cotton arrival from Punjab witnessed 16.94 percent increase, as over 6.849 million cotton bales arrived in the market. He said that crop arrival from Sindh was recorded at over 3.784 million bales, registering an increase of 0.79 percent as compared to the same period last year.

Cotton prices remain firm on Friday with steady flow of buying. Prices were being quoted at around Rs7,000 per maund (around 37 kilograms), brokers said. However, much of the trading remained around quality cotton which was in short supply.

There was strong demand for quality cotton, but spinners were disappointed as ginners were reluctant to sell at current rates.

The KCA’s spot rates were firm at overnight level.

Apart from local dynamics, the domestic market is also tracking an uptrend in leading cotton markets.
