Trading at cotton market stable with increase in cotton demand as mills are going for more buying, amid a decline in production and surge in consumption.

At the Karachi Cotton Exchange on Tuesday witnessed normal trading with spot rates remaining unchanged.

KCE recorded domestic transactions of around 5,000 bales in between Rs6,700/maund to Rs7,000/maund from six stations that included Fort Abbas, Dharanwala, Maroot, Haroonabad, Hasilpur and Mian Channu.

Danish Mission in Islamabad Deputy Head Jakob Rogild Jakobsen addressing the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) in Faisalabad on Tuesday said that Pakistan was a huge market, which offered excellent opportunities to Danish businessmen in various sectors, particularly the textile sector.

Asian paraxylene prices rose US$13 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the third week of January. Spot mixed xylene jumped US$32.50 a ton FOB Korea while orthoxylene prices rose US$20 a ton CFR China.

Paraxylene prices were up in Asian markets as Sinopec settles January contract prices and South Korea's exports rise 10% in 2016. Orthoxylene prices were buoyed by short supply amid rising feedstock isomer-grade mixed xylene prices.

In China, FDY70D/24F SD prices were up US cents 8 a kg in the third week of January while FDY40D were up US cents 8 a kg on the week. DTY 70D/24F prices also moved up while 30D/10F rose US cents 8 a kg during the week.

Monofilament 30D prices jumped US cents 8 a kg while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices were up US cents 7 a kg on the week.

Nylon filament yarn makers trimmed operation due to slow demand while prices moved up further with margins turning positive amid rising raw material cost. Nylon yarn producers hiked offers further to relieve cost pressure.

Asian caprolactum prices were up US$20-70 a ton SE and FE markers in the third week of January. In China, spot offers for liquid goods rose US$70 a ton while solid good increased US$60 a ton on the week.

Caprolactum prices inched up on the back of moderate demand and recovering benzene amid tight supply. In China, both liquid and solid goods prices moved up. In contract, Sinopec and Fibrant Chemical announced settlement for January lower than their respective nominations. Downstream, run rates of polymerization units were at 70% and inventory up to 4 days’ worth.
