As per the Industry experts, they are expecting a tax of 12% GST. But the duties they would now be paying at the manufacturers’ end will be quite high. For worse, the textile industry may witness inflation till third quarter of the financial year in 2017-18.

The Pakistan Ministry of Textile Industry under the prime minister's package of incentives has allowed duty drawback of taxes for exporters. The duty drawbacks under this order shall be allowed for exports GDs, filed on or after Jan 16, 2017 to June 30, 2017. Further, duty drawback of taxes under this order shall be allowed for exports GSs, filed on or after July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018, if the exporter would achieve an increase of 10 percent or more in exports over 2016-17 exports.

MEG price gains in Asia, Europe

Asian MEG prices leapt US$16 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the second week of January. In China, offers for nearby-month goods edged up US$10 a ton amid thin transaction. Meanwhile, MEGlobal nominated its February MEG Asian contract price which was US$40 a ton higher from its January nomination.

Paraxylene price rises across all regions

Asian paraxylene prices inched up US$3.67 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the second week of January. Isomer mixed xylene declined by US$12 a ton FOB Korea on the week.

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets inched up on the week after falling opening the week and recovering in the end as naphtha bounced on Thursday. Thus, the paraxylene--naphtha spread narrowed mid-week. Isomer mixed xylene also fell during the week.

Trading activity at cotton market remain firm

In the process of sluggish business, trading activity remain firm at cotton market on Tuesday, dealers said. The official spot rate also stayed unchanged at Rs 6500.

In Sindh, seed cotton prices were at Rs 3100-3450, while in Punjab, phutti rates were at Rs 3100 and Rs 3650, as per 40 kg. In the ready session, over 3,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 6400 and Rs 6750.

According to expers, cotton traders welcomed issuance of the SRO and hoping for better outcome of incentives given to revive the textile sector.
