Asian MEG prices declined US$52 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the first week of March. In China, prices moved down US$70 a ton early in the week, and remained range-later in the week.

Mono ethylene glycol prices dived in Asian markets on urgent sales with sellers lowering offers to avoid incurring port costs. In China, port inventories continued to swell while supply in domestic market was abundant that week. Feedstock ethylene also plunged easing cost support to MEG.

Asian paraxylene prices slipped US$1.34 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the first week of March. Isomer-grade mixed xylene declined US$2 a ton FOB Korea on the week.

Paraxylene prices declined in Asian markets amid weakness in both up and downstream sectors. In China, the May PTA futures fell Yuan on the exchange. Mixed xylene dipped weekend amid lack of outlets in the CFR Taiwan market with major buyer Formosa Chemical and Fibre Corp. due to shut its aromatics plant in April for turnaround.

Trading session remained moderate at the cotton market on Tuesday owing to short supply of quality cotton. The Karachi Cotton Association's (KCA) spot rate remained intact at Rs 6,800 per maund. While ginners kept asking for higher prices due to limited stocks, spinners were reluctant to pay more, brokers said.

According to a senior trader, Ghulam Rabbani, the volumes remained small with growing demand for better grades of lint on slightly higher price by the mills and spinning sector during the trading session.

RTM produces synthetic and blend yarn at its facility in Bhawanimandi. Before the current expansion, it had 90,432 spindles capacity.
