Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) plans to establish a composite jute textile plant to make fabrics, particularly denim which will involve investment to the tune of Tk569 crore. The denim fabrics will be made by mixing jute and cotton to meet the rising demand, both at the domestic and global markets.

The state-run corporation has already received the approval from the project evaluation committee of the planning ministry. The project is now awaiting the final approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to celebrate Mumbai city’s mill legacy will be going ahead with planning of a textile museum at Kalachowkie. The plan includes a live, functioning mini textile mill, a representation of the past chawl life and a museum for which they have appointed JJ School of Arts to prepare a vision document for the museum.

Ajoy Mehta, municipal commissioner said that he wants the planning committee is to make the museum interactive for public, accessible which is enjoyed by all the citizens of the city.

Vietnam’s garment and textile sector which is forecasted to benefit greatly from the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is still enjoying good growth in exports to the US market even without TPP. Holding the second biggest market share in the US and Japan, according to Le Tien Truong, Director General of the Vietnam National Textile and Garment group (Vinatex).

Blended yarn prices stable to up in Asia

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices rolled over in the second week of March while 45s PC combed yarn prices were up on the week.

Blended spun yarn price remained firm across Asian markets and were moving into different directions in China. Although PSF prices were down in all markets, cotton prices firmed up prompting spinners to blend fibres to remain cost effective.

In Pakistan, PC and PV yarns pries were firm being supported by a relatively higher level of demand. VSF prices have however climbed due to rise in seasonal demand as more spinning mills started producing PV yarns.

Viscose yarn price weakens in China

In China, offers for ring‐spun 30s weaving yarn in Xiaoshan were flat to weak in the second week of March, while compact siro‐spun 40s yarn in Jiangsu were steady on the week.

Spun viscose yarn markets were bit weak in China, with inventory rising at yarn makers. Low‐end trading prices for ring‐spun 30s yarn and siro‐spun 40s yarn were below previous week’s levels. Market participants held different opinions on future development on the back of mixed signals.

In Pakistan, viscose yarn prices climbed on cost support from rising VSF prices in the week due to rise in seasonal demand.

Pakistan’s cotton production has increased 9.99 percent reached 10.722 million bales until March 15, 2017, over the same period last year. According to report from Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA), out of the total arrivals, cottonseed (Phutti) to the tune of 10,722,328 bales has undergone the ginning process.

Arrivals in Punjab ginneries were recorded at 6.9 million or 6,935,370 bales, growing by 15.92 percent compared to the corresponding period last year.
