Representatives of various associations of the textile industry in Tamil Nadu have reiterated its appeal to Chief Minister Edapadi Palanisamy jointly for withdrawal of the one percent agricultural market committee fee on cotton and cotton waste.

SIMA Chairman M Senthilkumar, referring to the market committee fee said that this has been one of their long-pending demands. The former chairman of the Southern India Mills Association S Dinakaran had submitted a memorandum to the then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2012, but no action has been initiated till date.

In Shengze, offers for 32s polyester yarn moved down US cents 2 a kg in the first week of March. In Qiangqing, 32s weaving yarn was also down US cents 2 a kg on the week.

Offers for spun polyester yarns of some specs in Shengze market were weakly stable on the back of limited orders. Offers also moved down accordingly on the back of poor enquiring and selling sentiment and weakened in line with PSF price that week.

Asian PTA prices edged down US$1 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia in the first week of March. Purified terephthalic acid prices slipped in Asian markets at the end of the week due to falling futures on Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange.

In China, domestic PTA market was corrected in a narrow range but was under recovery based on support from spot prices and the need to replenish inventories by end users beginning of March. Supply will increase with Thai Indorama restarted its plant in March.

Iran’s state-run Ahdaf Investment Company, a subsidiary of the Oil Pension Fund Investment Company signs a $3.2bn agreement with Hyundai Engineering (HEC) to develop the second phase of the Kangan petrochemical plant.

The seconf phase of the Kangan petrochemical plant is planned to produce 1mn metric tons/yr of ethylene as well as 750,000 mt/yr of light and heavy polyethylene.

Ethylene prices declined sharply in the first week of March in North East Asia as demand dropped for downstream styrene monomer while other derivatives like PE weakened significantly. In US, ethylene spot fell on longer supply as Formosa Plastics Texas unit returned from turnaround while February contract was settled higher on the month. European ethylene market was bullish as material remained tight amid firm demand remains.

A slow pace of trading in the lint market witnessed as buyers made selective deals for second grade of lint, while forward deals were also made for better grades, traders said.

During the trading session, spinners and mills in Sindh and Punjab stations made deals for second grade lint, while sellers offered all grades of lint at around Rs 5,975 per maund to Rs 6,775 per maund in order to capitalise maximum returns on their proceeds.
