An initiative of Delhi Crafts Council to provide marketing assistance to skilled weavers and printers, 'Kairi 2017- an exhibition of textiles' a four day long event had on display Ajrakh sarees made with khatri Aurangzeb’s vegetable dye, intricate Gujarat weaves, brocade and Banarasi woven fabrics to Odisha ikats, a wide range of traditional weaves from across the country here.

It also displayed an array of weaving styles and patterns including tie and dye, khadi, ajrakh, bagru and dabu prints, laaheriya, ikats and weaves in sarees, dupattas and fabrics.

The government for the development of the powerloom sector has formulated a Solar Energy scheme under which it will provide incentives and concessions to loom weavers to utilize solar energy to increase production, said Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta.

Under the scheme, the government will provide financial assistance and capital subsidy to the extent of 50 percent, 75 percent and 90 percent of the basic cost of the solar energy plant to applicants.

The government has also conducted a study on the Scheme for Integrated Textiles Parks.

Mimaki, a global industry leader and manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers, cutting plotters, 3D modeling machines and RIP software has updated its Tx300P-1800 and Tx300P-1800B direct-to-textile printers to simultaneously load both textile pigment and sublimation dye inks. This new technology aims to improve productivity and increase flexibility for their textile printers.

The manufacturer stated that this will enable the use of a single printer to print directly on a wide range of textiles without the need to change out ink systems.

Cotton prices remain firm on strong export demand

With an opening stock of about 4.5 million bales at the beginning of the 2016-17 season, the Cotton Association of India (CAI) has projected a total demand of 29.5 million bales for the year, against 38.2 million bales last year. CAI's estimates put available the surplus at 11.2 million bales.

However, looking at the trends in cotton arrivals at mandis, as much as 70 percent of the crop is believed to have already hit the market. Traders put total arrivals so far at 24.4 million bales.

Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) to set up a second composite silk weaving factory at the cost of Rs.24 crore on its premises in Mysuru.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presenting the state budget 2017-18 in Bengaluru on Wednesday said that Rs.5 crore will be provided to KSIC to establish the factory.

The proposal to establish a mega silk cluster in collaboration with the Government of India also finds mention in the budget. It is expected to come up on 10 acres of land at Belavadi on the outskirts of the city.

Dwindling stock and shortage of quality cotton kept trading slow

Slow trading witnessed at cotton market on Thursday owing to dwindling stocks in the country and shortage of quality cotton. The Karachi Cotton Association’s spot rates were reduced by Rs50 to Rs6,750 per maund (around 37 kilograms).

Only small-lot deals were reported to have changed hands as spinners kept looking for quality cotton but mostly failed due to limited stocks with ginners.

Meanwhile, ginners fear that the next crop could also be short if the government did not come up with a cotton policy and protected cotton-growing areas which are shifting to sugar cane.
