Bangladesh witness slowdown in apparel shipment

Bangladesh witnesses slowdown in apparel shipments that account for more than 80 percent of national exports due to a fall of the euro against the US dollar as well as the Brexit issues, the US elections and a decline in consumption in the West, said Siddiqur Rahman, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.

Rahman said that the UK is the third largest export destination for Bangladesh. But exports to this destination began declining due to Brexit that took place in June last year.

Cotton prices surged on Wednesday on the back of strong buying from spinners and short supply. At Karachi Cotton Exchange, spot rates remained unchanged.

The spot rates stood firm at Rs6,750/maund (37.324kg) and Rs7,234/40kg. Ex-Karachi rates also remained intact at Rs6,885/maund and Rs7,379/40kg after an addition of Rs135 and Rs145 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

Growth in wool demand to continue in major international markets

Increase domestic consumption of luxury woollen textiles is one of the factor to push growth in wool demand in major international markets and China, the world's largest producer and exporter of woollen clothing and textiles. In China, the growth in wool demand is predicted to be more strongly.

Senior ABARES economist Dr Caroline Gunning-Trant in her analysis presented at ABARES Outlook 2017 said that the continuing growth in wool demand has led to increase in price of wool in Australian dollars since 2014.

ASF prices remain firm in Asia

In China, medium-length fiber and cotton-type staple ASF prices remained firm in the last week of February.

Acrylic staple fibre prices remained range bound across Asian markets during the week on support of rising acrylonitrile sentiment. In China, producers mulled to hike list prices at the end of the week. However, cost pressure was still lingering, seeing acrylonitrile cost on the upswing. Downstream demand was sound, as some converters have not stocked up adequate raw materials.

In India, ASF prices rolled over but producers were planning to raise the prices.

Acrylonitrile price climbs on high propylene cost

Asian acrylonitrile prices increased US$30 a ton CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia in the last week of February. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were flat while Indian ACN prices rose US$20 a ton on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets were driven up again by tight supply and high propylene cost. Shanghai Secco shuts its plant for turnaround from 20 February 20 to 25 March for maintenance.

In China, spot prices continued to climb after one major announced monthly settlement higher, which fueled spot again and players were expecting further hikes.
