The textile industry has urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to release funds for disbursement of duty drawback to exporters against realisation of export proceeds, besides paying refunds of sales tax to the exporters against the already issued RPOs to save the industry from the liquidity crisis.

After the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs had increased MSP by Rs 300 to Rs 3,500 per quintal for 2017-18 season, the Union textiles minister Smriti Irani along with the Jute Corporation of India and the National Jute Board has asked to help increase the supply of certified jute seeds at a cheaper price to farmers in consultation with the National Seeds Corporation.

Irani gave these directions at a recent inter-department meeting which discussed concerns raised by the industry about the poor grade of raw jute, which was affecting the quality of finished bags.

The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) had submitted its draft proposal to develop a Mega Textile Park at Pinjarat village in Olpad taluka of Surat district on the government land to the state chief secretary. Gujarat Khedut Samaj (GKS)president Jayesh Patel in a meeting with the SGCCI president B S Agrawal handed a memorandum to him.

In the memorandum, GKS has pointed out that that the project land falls near the coastal area and under inter-tidal zone area, as prescribed by Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA) plan 2035.

Polyester spun yarn market in China softened that week, and offers fluctuated with a slight drop. Spot prices weakened somewhat that week, while transaction did not change much. Asian PTA prices edged down US$5 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia in the last week of March. Purified terephthalic acid markets in Asia were under slight downward correction that week. Prices declined opening the week to slightly recover midweek after crude oil rebounded above US$50 a barrel. PTA markets showed quiet performance later in the week.

Azerikimya Production Union after it’s the first stage of modernization at the Ethylene-polyethylene plant the production of propylene to grow up to 150,000 tons in October 2017 from the current 60,000 tons, said Head of Azerikimya Mukhtar Babayev.
