In China, FDY70D/24F SD prices declined US cents 15 a kg in the first week of April, while FDY40D fell US cents 7-15 a kg on the week. DTY 70D/24F prices also fell US cents 14 a kg while 30D/10F was down US cents 7-14 a kg on the week.

Nylon filament yarn prices declined slowly on relieved cost pressure as nylon chip and caprolactum prices remained range bound in weakness that week. Downstream converters maintained cautious operation as customers were cautious of following up on the back of flat raw materials and buy‐rise mentality.

Asian caprolactum prices fell US$50 a ton SE and FE in the first week of April. In China, spot liquid caprolactum offers were stable while solid goods were steady on the week.

Caprolactum markets rebounded mildly on the back of recovering benzene and bargain hunting activities. However, prices were resilient to the firmness in raw material seeing stagnant downstream demand.

Iran Customs Administration to support domestic garment industry and prevent smuggling has introduced measures to systemize import procedures of foreign clothing brands. As over 8.5 million items of clothing were seized last year (March 2016-17) compared to 9.9 million confiscated a year before.

The measures, unveiled during a meeting attended by representatives of the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade, the Association of Textile Industry Producers, Iran’s Apparel Union and customs officials.

The Karachi Cotton Exchange on Monday witnessed dull trading as many mills stopped lint buying, while some were engaged in price negotiations with the ginners.

The spot rates remained unchanged at Rs6,750/maund (37.324kg) and Rs7,234/40kg. Ex-Karachi rates also stood firm at Rs6,885/maund and Rs7,379/40kg after an addition of Rs135 and Rs145 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

Only one transaction was recorded at KCE of 400 bales from Khanpur at the rate of Rs7,000/maund.

The textile industry of India has urged the government to place all products across the textile and apparel value chain under the lowest slab of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 5 percent to avoid all possibilities of tax evasion. The applicable rates are currently between 5 and 7 percent, depending upon the use of raw materials and production of finished products. The final decision on the rate is yet to be decided, the draft rules propose four slabs -- 5, 8, 12 and 18 per cent of tax under GST.

Mahavir Pratap Sharma, chairman, Carpet Export Promotion Council said that they are working to develop standards and a trademark that will ensure the products comply with the standards set by the organization. It will also reinforce India’s position as the top source of handmade carpets.

In China, offers for ring‐spun 30s weaving yarn in Xiaoshan fell US cents 7 a kg in the first week of April, while compact siro‐spun 40s yarn in Jiangsu declined US cents 5 a kg on the week.

Viscose spun yarn prices trended south rapidly in China as the decline in VSF prices accelerated that week. Discussions for ring‐spun 30s and siro‐spun 40s yarn generally fell. Due to a long period of slow liquidity and tight funds, some yarn makers offloaded goods aggressively, leading to a mixed atmosphere in the market.
