The sixth edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo of its kind, to fulfill the needs of the international Denim community through close networking will begin in May at Dhaka. The expo will also help promote the importance of sustainability, addressing environmental and ecological issues that affect business apart from promoting ways to improve and develop best working practices.

The theme of the expo is ‘Denim Networks’ that will highlight the importance of developing understanding and relationships in the Denim industry.

The Chairman of Central Silk Board of India, K.M. Hanumantharayappa , has taken a crucial decision to stop the import of silk from China. Presently, India is producing 28,000 to 30,000 tonnes of raw silk every year as against its requirement of 34,000 tonnes. A shortfall of 4,000 to 6,000 tonnes is being made good by imports from China.

According to him, though Karnataka accounted for as much as 60% of the country’s raw silk output, there was no State in the country that was not producing silk.

PERU MODA and PERU GIFT SHOW 2017 the two-day event was a great success; generating US$ 108 million, as a result of more than 3,350 meetings with 250 Peruvian exporters and more than 800 international buyers attending the event.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Eduardo Ferreyros Küppers, pointed out that most of the buyers came from the U.S (28%), followed by Brazil (14%), Chile (6%), Argentian (4%) and Mexico (3%).

Asian PTA prices were up US$9 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia in the first week of April. Purified terephthalic acid prices inched up recovering from previous two weeks decline on firmer upstream and rise in sentiment during the week.

According to sources, demand in China from the downstream polyester was healthy, with higher sales ratios towards the end of the week in Zhejiang and Jiangsu. However, there were no expectations of any significant upswing in demand for PTA in the near-term, although stable operating rates will continue.
