Paraxylene price falls across all regions

Asian paraxylene prices fell US$32.33 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the second week of April. Isomer-grade mixed xylene was up US$19 a ton FOB Korea on the week.

Paraxylene prices receded sharply on the first three days of the holiday shortened week, only to inch up later, but posted decline on the week across Asian markets. Upstream, Isomer grade mixed xylene prices strengthened but weak downstream PTA markets pressured paraxylene down.

India has withdrawn the countervailing duty (CVD) imposed on import of jute products from Nepal. The anti-dumping duty, however, continues. A Gazette notification on April 20, said that Nepal is eligible to get exemptions from additional duties on jute sacks and bags similar to Bangladesh which was granted the exemption in February 2011.

Dull trading continues at cotton market

Karachi Cotton Exchange on Tuesday witnessed dull trading as buyers still remained away from the market after yarn and fabric sales were not picking up in the international markets.

The spot rates remained unchanged at Rs6,700/maund (37.324kg) and Rs7,180/40kg. Ex-Karachi rates also stood firm at Rs6,835/maund and Rs7,325/40kg after an addition of Rs135 and Rs145 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

One of the greatest problems of the textile industry, management of textile waste, has been solved by a design and research team from the College of Human Ecology. They have developed the Fiberizer v.2, a machine that challenges the national problem of textile waste by taking old garments and recycling them into reusable fabric.

The team — organized by Prof. Tasha Lewis, fiber science and apparel design — consisted of students from fiber science and apparel design, design and environmental analysis, physics, mechanical and aerospace engineering, and materials science and engineering.

Nylon yarn price moves down in China

In China, FDY70D/24F SD prices declined US cents 6 a kg while FDY40D also fell US cents 6 a kg on the week. DTY 70D/24F prices were down US cents 6 a kg while 30D/10F remained unchanged on the week.

Monofilament 30D prices dropped US cents 7 a kg while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices were stable during the week.

Nylon filament yarn prices inched down further, but at a slower pace as cost pressure eased with the weakening of nylon chips price and caprolactum range bound in weakness. With falling yarn prices, demand may warm up following inventory digestion.

Caprolactum price rebounds in China

Asian caprolactum markers, the SE and FE rolled in the second week of April. In China, spot liquid caprolactum offers were up US$80 a ton on the week.

Caprolactam prices rebounded mildly in China that week on the back of recovering benzene over the past three weeks and amid bargain hunting activities. Offers from East Europe and japan origin caprolactum were cheaper following their rigid stand in the past weeks.
