TN proposes to set up integrated textile park in Ramanathapuram district

The Tamil Nadu Government announced that an integrated textile processing park has been planned at a cost of Rs 150 crore with Central grant which will to be set up in Ramanathapuram District.

Industries Minister M C Sampath told the state assembly that the park would come on a 225 acre land in Manakudi village under Thiruvadanai Taluk.

The facility upon operational would have 30 textile processing units with a capital outlay of Rs 450 crore and create 6,000 jobs. Besides, a desalination plant to supply water will also be established at the facility.

The Federation of Gujarat Weavers Welfare Association (FOGWWA) for the larger benefits of the Indian textile sector under the new GST regime has demanded that the Central government should implement fiber policy for all types of fibers to attract the same duty. FOGWWA submitted a memorandum to district collector Mahendra Patel on Friday with a slew of demands.

Indian kharif season sees king cotton making a big comeback

Cotton farming has seen an increase this year with 16.67(lh) of land used for cotton cultivation compared to 12.25 (lh) land used in 2016, as the data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

The huge margin in the production of these different crops was attributed to the state agencies’ response in buying them from the farmers, who require immediate compensation for picking the cotton and using pesticides.

Cotton trading remained moderate amid firm physical prices, traders said. At the The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rates were readjusted overnight by Rs 50 per maund to stay at Rs 6,650 per maund.

Forward deals for a month period also changed hands that pushed physical prices in green zone. Floor brokers said that buyers made deals for all grades besides deals for better and second grade of lint for blending purpose remained firm and deals changed hands at around Rs 6,475 per maund to Rs 6,675 per maund during the trading session.

Textiles Minister K T Rama Rao announced on Thursday that a new scheme will be launched on June 24 from Pochampally and the main objective of the scheme is to provide financial and social security to the weavers.

The new Telangana Handloom Weavers Thrift Fund Savings and Securities Scheme (TFSSS) is for the benefit of weavers in the State.

Rama Rao said that apart from providing financial and social security, the scheme will also help the weavers take loans or any financial help in the future to meet their needs.
