The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has signed an MoU with its counterpart in China, the China Cotton Association (CCA) to promote good cotton trading practices and cooperation. The partnership will go a long way in making cotton trading safer in both countries.

According to Nayan C Mirani, President CAI, India and China are the largest cotton economies, and signing this MOU will go a long way in resolving the issues faced by traders in both the countries.

In China, medium-length fibre and cotton-type ASF prices declined US cents 6 a kg at the lower end of the price range in the second week of June. Sinopec Chemicals cut its June list prices for ASF by US cents 3-12 a kg.

Acrylic staple fibre prices were seen declining in China that week, after one major cut indications, amid quiet atmosphere. ASF producers still had faced meager margins, while feedstock ACN prices also remained weak but did not ease cost pressure on ASF market. Downstream mills mainly replenished volumes on need‐ basis, providing thin demand support to ASF market.

Asian acrylonitrile prices rose US$21 a ton CFR Far East Asia and CFR South East in the second week of June. In China, offers for offshore cargoes rolled over on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices gained in Far East Asia on tight supply while they remained flat in South Asia, SE Asia. Demand from acrylic fibre market remained low and changed marginally in South Asia and Southeast Asia that week. In China, ACN spot remained weak as demand remained sluggish in the whole.

The All Pakistan Bedsheet and Upholstery Manufacturers Association (APBUMA) sought dedicated industrial zones across the country for the upholstery sector. The association said that the people from these sectors had approached finance and commerce ministries and requested them to take interest in early establishment of industrial zones.

The APBUMA was willing to share cost of setting up industrial zones if the government selected and provided suitable land for the purpose.

Textile traders across the city have sought total exemption from GST till 2019. The demand was submitted to the commercial tax commissioner, Dr P D Vaghela, on Wednesday.

According to Gaurang Bhagat, the president of Maskati Cloth Merchants Association, an awareness programmes about the GST are needed for textile traders. The traders should be prepared for the new tax before it is imposed.

He said that the commissioner has assured them that their case will be presented to the Union government.

The Indian government is probing anti dumping allegations against a select Chinese polyester yarn following the complaints from SRF Ltd and Reliance Industries alleging dumping of the yarn and asked for an investigation into the matter.

The investigation will cover the period from April 2016 to March this year. These yarns are used for manufacture of tyre cord fabric, seat belt webbing, slings, ropes, coated fabric and conveyor belt fabric.
