BGMEA
The president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers Exporters Association (BGMEA) has stated that Bangladesh garment factory owners must adopt a “local eco-system of circularity,” citing increased demand from brands for circular products.
The remarks were delivered by BGMEA President Faruque Hassan during a virtual session on circularity and moving away from the take-make-waste economy in Bangladesh.
During the session, entitled ‘Moving from take – make – waste economy to circular solutions’, he said that it’s critical for them to create a customized local circularity eco-system that includes local manufacturers and recyclers. They also need to build the ability of manufacturers, recyclers, and waste handlers to close the loop locally.
President Faruque Hassan added that they’re also excited about post-consumer trash recycling, which will require significant collaboration from clothing brands. In the field of circular economy, they need more direct support from donors and development partners. They hope that by working together, they will be able to improve Bangladesh’s apparel industry’s circularity capacity. They’re also looking forward to post-consumer waste recycling and they need strong collaboration from apparel brands to do so.
