Balenciaga features AMSilk’s bioengineered yarns in its collection

Germany-based biomaterials company AMSilk has showcased its bioengineered yarns in the 55th Couture Collection of Spanish luxury fashion house Balenciaga. An evening cocoon gown made from an AMSilk-blend fabric was presented as part of creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli’s debut Couture Collection for Balenciaga. The garment highlights the lightweight nature and versatility of AMSilk’s bioengineered yarns and marks the latest milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the two companies.

The partnership reflects Balenciaga’s growing interest in adopting scalable and more sustainable alternatives to conventional materials, including traditional silk. It also demonstrates the continued development of AMSilk’s bioengineered yarns, which are designed to deliver premium quality and appearance without compromising performance.

Ulrich Scherbel, Chief Operating Officer of Premium Filaments at AMSilk, said the inclusion of the material in Balenciaga’s Couture Collection is an important achievement for the company. He noted that haute couture has always been defined by exceptional craftsmanship and high-quality materials, adding that the collaboration validates AMSilk’s technology and highlights the growing role of biotechnology-based materials in luxury fashion. He also said the company is proud to continue this journey with partners such as Balenciaga.
