TN textile mills going for Chinese compact spinning machinery

Earlier, compact yarn was used by companies making shirt material but now hosiery units use compact yarn. It is a value-added product and in the comings years, its demand is expected to go up. It is estimated that in the next seven to eight years, about 30 percent of the yarn produced will be compact yarn.

With the demand for compact yarn increasing gradually and textile mills in the Southern region are going in for compact spinning machinery and attachments, according to industry sources.

During past week, trading remained dull due to lack of fine and second grade and power outages at ginneries, textile units kept activities dull and buyers made deals for all grades on cautious note besides demand for fine grades remained higher in order to fortify their inventories, floor brokers said.

The forward deals were made on back of grade issue at around Rs 4,925 per maund to Rs 4,950 per maund, traders said on Saturday.

The Ministry of Textiles (MoT) to blacklist companies for two years and will even face criminal proceeding to found supplying imported jute bags for government procurements. The warning followed reports of unscrupulous traders and organizations importing B-Twill sacking and cloth from Bangladesh or Nepal and using them in government procurements.

The Jute Commissioner said that even if a single jute bag being supplied to the government is found to be procured from abroad, action will be taken immediately against owners and directors of the company, an official statement said today.
