Designers from India and Pakistan are all set to showcase their creativity in fashion, textile, jewelery, accessories and even furniture in a joint three day exhibition, Shaan-e-Pakistan which is schedule to begin on September 10 in New Delhi where over 150 exhibitors from both the countries will be participate.

Cygnet Texkimp provides specialist knowledge and bespoke machinery for the global technical fibre and fabric, after receiving one third of funding for the scheme from the Textiles Growth Programme has decided to make investment of £1 million to expand its machinery and materials research centre.

The Textiles Growth Programme forms part of the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) and is a dedicated grant growth programme designed to drive investment in Britain’s textile supply chain, with a focus on the North of England.

The Director General of Foreign Trade announced a new list of textile items eligible for export sops, last week which excluded certain knitted fabrics for concession under the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme. This came as a big surprise for the Cotton Textiles Exports Promotion Council (Texprocil).

Knitted fabrics with HS (Harmonized System) Code 6006, which covers most of the knitted fabrics including those with lycra are value added products that are used widely in garments were left out in the list of items covered for export benefit.

Nortex to make investment of P3m on machinery to increase production

Northern Textiles (Nortex), Botswana’s largest towel manufacturer which presently produces six tones of towels a day are planning to increase production to 6.5 tonnes in the current financial year, which began this month in a bid to sustain growth. The company has announced that it will invest P3 million on machinery, said the managing director, Mukesh Josh. They will not necessarily be growing the company, but will be maintaining growth.

The Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Ltd (KSICL) is flying high with Air India staff opting for its Mysore Silk saris. During the last fiscal, Air India ordered 10,000 saris -- 6000 were delivered for its flight attendants. The remaining 4000 will be given soon for the ground staff.

The government silk weaving factory in Mysuru, established in 1912, taken over by KSIC in 1980 completed 100 years on 2012 is all set celebrate its centenary in August. As part of the celebrations, a special discount on Mysore Silk saris will be offered.

Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation has been provided loan of Tk 100 crore by the government for procurement of raw jute from cultivators across the country. The loan will be disbursed among its 26 jute mills.

Finance Division has promised to disburse another Tk100 crore from the government exchequer after Eid-ul-fitr holidays, as the jute ministry had sought fund just two days before Eid holidays began for immediate use like payment of workers’ wages to avert agitation, according to official sources.
