Pakistan witnessed rise in value added textile exports by 7.5pc in FY2014-15

Pakistan’s exports of value-added textile products witnessed raise by 7.5 percent to $4.517 billion in 2014-15 from $4.202bn a year ago. Also exports of readymade garments grew 10.5pc to $2.101bn from $1.909bn, and of knitwear raised 5.37pc to $2.416bn compared to $2.293bn during the previous year. The reason behind the rise is preferential access to the 28 nation European Union under GSP plus scheme, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics said on Monday.

Jute plants are growing rapidly due to the timely rain and sunlight, ideal conditions which is available this year. Farmers in Jamalpur district are likely to see bumper production of jute, according to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE).

The farmers have brought 44,868 hectares of land under jute cultivation in the district this year and four varieties of jute have been cultivated in the district with a production target of 4,82,201 bales of jute.

Over 739 textile units in Balotra area of Rajasthan have been shut down since May following the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) orders for allegedly violating pollution norms. This has created a major problem for Ichalkaranji-based textile units which has 1.25 lakh powerloom units that produce one crore meter grey cloth every day of it at least 30-40% cloth is supplied to Balotra area where it is processed in a particular way.

The Kenyan government will be spending 680 million Shilling ($6.8 million) to revive, expand and purchase equipment to facilitate operations at the Rift Valley Textile Mills (Rivatex) in Eldoret town, Uasin-Gishu County, Deputy President William Ruto said.

The deputy president urged investors to take advantage of emerging business opportunities in the country to initiate development projects. The project is being spearheaded by Moi University.

India fixes target for textile exports at USD 47.5bn for 2015-16

Textiles Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar in his written reply to Lok Sabha mentioned that the export of textiles for the current financial year (2015-16) targeting a growth of 14 percent has been fixed at USD 47.5 billion from actual exports of USD 41.6 billion in 2014-15, parliament was told on Thursday.

He also said that the government is encouraging exports through Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS), which has recently been modified to include the markets of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
