Kohlberg Kravis & Roberts (KKR), one of the global investment firm in the world, has signed a definitive agreement to invest $150 million (Rs 962 crore) into JBF Group a Mumbai-based polyester maker and its overseas arm. A portion of the proceeds will be used by KKR to acquire 20 percent stake in JBF Industries and will also invest in zero-coupon compulsorily convertible preference shares with 14.5 per cent voting rights in its Singapore-based wholly owned subsidiary JBF Global Pte Ltd.

Pakistan’s raw cotton prices due to fear of rain damage which may produce water-laden lint due to the continuing rainfall in several parts of the cotton belt remain under pressure. Moreover, global weakness in cotton and yarn prices is also pressuring the cotton prices.

Within a week or so, prices of seedcotton (Kapas/Phutti) have also reportedly declined by about Rs 200 per 40 Kilogrammes. The seedcotton prices in Sindh on Thursday ranged from Rs 1700 to Rs 2200 per 40 Kgs, while in the Punjab it ranged from Rs 1700 to Rs 2300 per kgs in a quiet market.

Bangladesh's central bank will set up $500 million of funding for the country's manufacturers, the funds will be divided into two parts. One for manufacturing in general and the second at textiles, including export oriented ready made garment factories. This will be an effort to stimulate economic growth, the head of the bank said on Thursday.

Garments are a key foreign-exchange earner for Bangladesh. The country's low wages and duty-free access to Western markets have helped make it the world's second-largest apparel exporter after China.

The performance of the TPT industry over the first quarter of 2015 was relatively poor, suffering a contraction with negative growth of 0.98 percent year-on-year, making it a worse performer than the manufacturing industry, which saw growth of 3.87 percent, and Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which saw growth of 4.71 percent.
