DGFT urges exporters to tap and diversify into Latin America, CIS nations and Africa

Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry urges Indian exporters need to look beyond eurozone and explore opportunities in emerging markets such as Latin America, CIS nations and Africa due to the current turbulence going on in Greece.

Director General of Foreign Trade, Pravir Kumar, at the Open House Meet with more than 200 exporters organized by CII Eastern Region in association with the Federation of India Export Organaistion (FIEO) said that when there are risks, it is extremely important to distribute risks and diversify elsewhere.

The textile ministry in consultation with the finance and revenue departments to look at the possibility of a duty cut on man-made fibre as high cost of key raw material for manufacturing blended garments is making Indian goods uncompetitive in the global market. Each year, nearly Rs . 900 crore worth of man-made fibre material is imported by garment makers.

The textile industry has been intensely lobbying for duty cuts on both domestic and import fronts, had been given hope during the previous year's budget, but the decision is yet to arrive.

The government of India as it revives its push for bilateral deals to corner a greater share of the export market is reworking its strategy on free trade agreements (FTAs).
