Brazilian cotton prices were recovering in early June driven by increasing need to purchase in the short-term and to the expectation of delay in the availability of cotton in the new season from the 2014/15 crop – due to rains. Purchasers with needs for prompt delivery, such as processors in the northeastern and southern regions, were accepting asking prices of sellers, according to a CEPEA Brazil report.

Turkmenistan plans to streamline its textile industry to increase the manufacturing of competitive products and attract investment in this industry as it holds an important place in its economic system, the country’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov said.

Turkmenistan traditionally grows cotton, which serves as a basis for developing the textile industry. The annual turnover of the textile industry is about $400 million as of 2014.

During the last meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the issues related to the development of the textile industry were discussed.

The Government plans to spend Rs.20 crore in apparel manufacturing centre which will be a single storey building set up on 1.50 acres land and generate employment for about 1,200 people per centre. Such modern apparel manufacturing centre would be set in each of the eight north-eastern States – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

Prices on the cotton market remained constant on Friday amid small lot buying from some needy mills while the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) revised down its spot rate by Rs50, to Rs5,100.

Process to set up CETPs for textile dyeing units in motion

Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company (TWIC) is preparing a feasibility report on the proposal to set up combined effluent treatment plants (CETPs) for textile dyeing units at five location in the region. The report will be submitted to the State Government in a couple of months.

Ashok Natarajan, chief executive officer of TWIC said that they are getting feasibility report ready for the project that is planned at Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Komarapalayam and Karur and stakeholders meetings have been conducted for the purpose.

The foundation stone for an apparel and garment making centre in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram was laid by Textile Minister Santosh Gangwar today. Apparel and garment making centres are being opened in every state of the Northeastern region as part of the initiative announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 1, 2014.

The centre will be the beginning of setting up an organized industry in Mizoram. The centre will be managed by the Ministry of Textiles for 5 years and will be handed over to the state government thereafter.
