U.S. fibre firms likely to be suppliers of Vietnam’s textile market

The U.S. Cotton Association survey shows that Vietnam is a very potential market with garment being a country’s key export product. At a meeting held in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, many U.S. fibre firms expressed their desire to become suppliers of Vietnamese garment and textile companies.

There are not much fibre plants in Vietnam, local firms are dependent on import and most materials, over 80 percent is imported from China and India.

Germany's Partnership for Sustainable Textiles- An Opportunity for Global Supply Chains organized seminar on the sidelines of the Indo-German inter-governmental consultations by FICCI and Knorad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) aiming to improve the conditions along the complete textile value chain. The alliance comprises more than 150 member organizations, currently covering nearly 45 percent of the German textile retail industry and is aiming at a long-term market coverage of 75 percent.

Paraxylene price gains in Asia

Asian paraxylene prices rose US$17.50 a ton both FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the fourth week of September.

Nominations for October Asian contract prices have begun ranging from flat to up. October Asian contract prices were heard nominated in the range of US$800-$850 a ton, up from September numbers.

In US, paraxylene spot market followed Asian rising trend and on tight feedstock supply. Spot mixed xylene rose on the week due to limited supply amid reformate arbitrage and turnarounds. Spot was slightly higher than blended value.

Textile units look for immediate steps from govt to stay competitive in global market

Around 300 textile units in the region have made separate representations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi listing out the immediate steps required from the government to support them remain competitive, as they are currently facing stiff competition in the global market.

Textile entrepreneurs wanted the intervention of the Union Government to ensure speedy disbursal of subsidies under the Technology Upgradation Fund (TUFS).

In Pakistan, six major sub-sectors of textile industry have shut down due to energy crisis, high cost of doing business and inconsistency in government policies, said Tariq Saud, the Chairman of All-Pakistan Textile Mills Association.

About 30% of the textile industry’s production capacity worth $3,467 million is not into operations thereby affecting the country’s exports, he stated.

National Textile Corporation (NTC) which has seven mills in the State, is considering consolidation and modernization. The NTC also plans to expand its Entyce showroom network through franchisees. It had invested in modernisation between 2008 and 2010 and taken up capacity addition in two mills two years ago. This has helped the mills improve productivity, reduce costs and improve quality, said A. Arulsamy, Executive Director (south).

TCP's seventh cotton tender for sale of 84,600 cotton bales will be opened on October 13, 2015. According to the tender document interested parties can inspect cotton on October 12 at TCP's Pipri Godown and later a pre-bid conference will be held in the board room of the TCP office at 3:30 pm.
