UAE’s digital textile printing industry set to grow within next 4-5yrs

UAE holds the world's fourth position as largest trading centre of textiles, generating an approximate $17.5 billion annually. The Man-Made Textile Research Association (MANTRA) is working on a Rs25 crore pilot project approved by Gujarat Government to manufacture hygiene products and medical textiles, including adult and baby diaper, masks, surgeon gowns and gloves, surgical shoes and blankets at 6,500 square meter of land at Karanj.

If all goes well in the next 18 months, Surat, country's largest man-made fabric (MMF) centre will turn into a manufacturing hub for disposable hygiene products and medical textiles.

MEG price jumps in Asian market

Asian MEG markers, the CFR China and CFR South East Asia rose US$30 a ton in the last week of December 2015.

In China, offers surged to US$615 a ton, and discussions and trading values followed up to US$610-615 a ton.

Mono ethylene glycol prices jumped on the week in Asian markets after market sentiment weakened gradually last week.

Prices climbed up in early week as players in short-position replenished goods at the end of December.

Paraxylene price dives in Asia amid weak crude oil prices

Asian paraxylene markers were down US$2.25 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the last week of December 2015.

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets declined on the week on softer crude oil prices and weak downstream demand.

Meanwhile, Aromatics Malaysia plans to shut its aromatics plant at Kertih, Terengganu, from end-March to early May for about 45 days of maintenance.

Supply was expected to increase as Ningbo Zhongjin Petrochemical restarted its 1.6 million ton a year paraxylene plant.

Rwanda wants to develop its own textile industry, cut imports of garments and create jobs through the factory for which the Rwandan government is contemplating a joint venture to set up a garment factory in the capital Kigali with Chinese investors.

As every year, the East African nation is said to spend over 15 million dollars importing second hand clothes. Last year, imported clothes both new and second hand cost Rwanda over 100 million dollars.
