Vietnam attracting a flood of overseas investment, among them is Japanese textile companies as many of these manufacturers are hoping to get a boost from the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement -- to which Vietnam is a party -- and is ramping up production and exports in the Southeast Asian country with an eye toward boosting U.S.-bound shipments.

For textile companies, the excellent technical capability of Vietnamese workers is a big drawing point, even if the labor costs are higher than those in Bangladesh and Myanmar.

The long promised textile park at SIDCUL, Sitarganj to be completed in the current year for which over 103 acres land have been earmarked, said NK Koranga, DGM, SIDCUL, at Rudrapur today.

The establishment of the textile park at the Sitarganj SIDCUL in 2012 had been announced by the Former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna. While the foundation stone for the textile park had been laid by Union Textile Minister Anand Sharma in the presence of Bahuguna.

If the park is established well, every company will create over 3,000 jobs.

The jute cultivation and jute industry that faced huge losses and shortage in production due to floods in West Bengal last year is a cause of concern for the government as the price of jute, that is one of the cheapest items India produces, is on rise, said a senior official in the Ministry of Textiles.

Raw jute prices have already touched an unprecedented high of Rs 54,000 a tonne, twice the level of Rs 27,000 per tonne in the year-ago period. Mill owners and traders feel commercial intervention by JCI would spike raw jute prices to the level of Rs 60000 a tonne.

An MoU was signed between the Ministry of Commerce China, Weihai and the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA)on Saturday to explore the potential of joint ventures and investment opportunities in textile sector of Pakistan.

A 20-members Chinese delegation from the Ministry of Commerce Weihai, China visited the APTMA Punjab headed by Ms Zhang Buwen of Shandog Hushan Group was welcomed by Chairman APTMA Punjab Aamir Fayyaz.

Govt to resolve issues arising out of blackout and leftout under TUFS

The government last week notified the Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (A-TUFS) for textile sector but did not mention about the committed liabilities during 'blackout and leftout' period in 2010-11. Union Minister Santosh Gangwar said that the government is making efforts towards resolving the issue of settlement of committed liabilities of around Rs 3,000 crore arising out of 'blackout and leftout' period cases under technology upgrade scheme for textile industry.

Ministry of textiles is likely to give the textile units in Sanganer Rs160 crore for setting up a zero liquid discharge (ZID) plant to keep pollution under control. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) decision to introduce the Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (ATUFS) and approved R12,671 crore for its “committed liabilities” under the old scheme completely rejects claims of textile mills that had sought subsidy against investments made under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) during the so-called black-out period, a senior official said.
