Mobile app to give trading platform for powerloom weavers and traders

A young computer engineer from Nirma University, Ahmedabad has developed a mobile application to bridge the gap between the powerloom weavers and textile traders of Surat, the country's largest man-made fabric (MMF) hub. The application also provides a secured trade environment.

With this new development now, the powerloom weavers have an opportunity to transact in a secure environment without worrying about the fly-by-night operators.

Bangladesh has impose ban on export of raw jute since November 2 last year, but as jute millers of the Himalayan nation have urged Bangladesh to help their local industry, the Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday said that the government will export raw jute to Nepal..

The exports will be on a case-to-case basis and as per the demand from the businesses of Nepal, Ahmed said.

The minister spoke at a meeting with a Nepalese business delegation at his secretariat in Dhaka.

Pakistan registered towels exports worth $396.196m in six months

Pakistan exported about 87,413 metric tons of towel worth US$396.196 million during first half of current financial year from July-December, 2015 registering an increase of 4.56 percent as compared to towel export of 81,112 metric tons, worth US$ 380.823 million exported during the corresponding period of last financial year, said figures of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has urged the textiles ministry to simplify the new foreign trade policy’s authorization, inspection and classification norms. Among their requests is to withdraw the need for a landing certificate for exported goods, required as proof to claim benefits under the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS). Introduced in April 2015, the scheme aims to boost sagging exports, covering tariff lines for 5,012 items that earn duty credits.

Blended yarn price moves down in China

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices fell US cents 2 a kg in the second week of January while 45s PC combed yarn prices rolled over on the week.

Blended yarn prices moved down in China in line with fibre prices. Polyester cotton yarn prices dropped in the meantime with falling cotton price.

The fresh fall in fiber prices depressed yarn offers, with even cotton losing ground on the domestic market in China whereas viscose sharply retreated. PSF prices showed resilience but could further decline.

Viscose yarn price moderates in China, stable in India and Pakistan

In China, mainsntream prices of 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu remained unchanged while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan fell US cents 4 a kg in the second week of January.

In China, spun viscose yarn prices stopped declining, with offers partially adjusted up on support of bottoming out of VSF prices.

Offers for siro-spun 40s yarn rolled over with some mills reportedly raised offers given the firmness in VSF markets later in the week.

Moderate trading witnessed as buyers focus on quality lint

At Pakistan cotton market trading activity remained moderate on Thursday, as buyers made deals for quality lint on slightly higher prices at around Rs 5,575 per maund during the trading session, said floor brokers.

In domestic market, buyers continued to keep an eye on quality lint on the back of growing demand of cloth and yarn.

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate unchanged Rs 5,400 per maund.

Jute Commissioner initiate process to cap prices of B Twill jute

Pakistan managed to produce only 9.48 million bales of cotton in the current season against 14.125 million bales during the same period of last year, decline by 33 percent due to abnormal weather, seed quality, pests and disease and low prices which have negatively affected cotton production.
