The export of lace products from the International Lace Trade Centre (ILTC) will take a giant leap from the present Rs. 60 crore to Rs.500 crore in the coming five years, according to Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) K. Gopal, of Ministry of Textiles.

The first-ever Rs108 crore integrated textile park project with Prashantkumar Mohota as lead promoter will be coming up in Vidarbha at Hinganghat in Wardha district under the Central government scheme (SITP) which is expected to generate at least 1000 jobs and provide much needed fillip to the cotton economy of the region.

Minister of State for Textiles (Independent Charge), Santosh Kumar Gangwar speaking at the curtain raiser event of Technotex 2016, held in New Delhi on Friday, said that a special focus has been given to technical textiles and has provided capital subsidy of 15 percent for technical textile machinery under Amended TUFS scheme.

The technical textiles can play an important role in the nation's social and economic fronts. As examples, Gangwar pointed out the applications of geotextiles in infrastructure and agrotextiles in improving agricultural productivity and quality of output.

Pakistani government and the business community to improve the export scenario to EU need to look beyond the textile and leather sectors, invest in other areas, said European Union (EU) Ambassador to Pakistan Jean Francois Cautain while talking to The Express Tribune.

Cautain emphasised on breaking away from past trade stereotypes and explore opportunities in other sectors besides textile and leather, in a bid to take advantage of the GSP Plus scheme which came into effect from January 2014, Pakistan gained duty-free access to the EU on certain products.

The fifth edition of ITMA Asia plus CITME to be held at the new National Exhibition and Convention Centre (NECC) in Shanghai from 21 to 25 October 2016 has received a huge response from both domestic and international textile machinery manufacturers due to which space applications for the exhibition will close on 29 February 2016.

Almost 1,000 manufacturers have already applied for space, according to show owners, CEMATEX, China Textile Machinery Association (CTMA), the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT (CCPIT-Tex) and China Exhibition Centre Group Corporation (CIEC).

Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) has strongly demanded that regulatory duty, sales tax and customs duty on the import of cotton from India should not be waived off and it must continue for the survival of local farmers as well as ginners.

The PCGA Chairman Nawab Shehzad Ali Khan said that Cotton economy was passing through the worst crisis of the history and they should avoid to benefit any stake holder at the cost of national economy and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should take notice of such proposals personally.

Vietnam has seen significant inflow of investment from the US in its textile and garment sector in recent years, one of the many US investors is Huntsman Textile Effects, a supplier of dyes and chemicals under the US-based Huntsman Group, in anticipation of the potential from the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Huntsman’s warehouse located in the Long Binh Industrial Park in the southern province of Dong Nai after only six months of operation since its opening in mid 2015 is operating at its full capacity of 250,000 tonnes.
