In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices rolled over in the second week of January. Offers for regular products were partially at US$1.56-1.60 a kg.

Jilin Chemical Fiber maintained its list prices for January with 1.5D and 3D medium-length at US$2.00 a kg, while tow was at US$2.09 a kg and top at US$2.24 a kg. Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow was flat at US$1.60-1.70 a kg.

Acrylic staple fibre offers remained stable although upstream, acrylonitrile prices declined further. Thus, pressure on margins eased greatly.

Asian acrylonitrile marker the CFR Far East Asia moderated US$50 a ton while Southeast Asia was up US$5 a ton in the second week of January.

In China, offers for offshore cargoes were at US$1,100, seeing cautious buying interest. Buyers were noncommittal to deep-sea cargoes due to long freight period.

Acrylonitrile prices fell in Far East Asian markets as supply increased in China, on new plant start up supply. In China, domestic price also fell while those in Southeast and South Asia remained unchanged.

GHCL, home textiles player is planning to foray into retail again with its own brand and plans to launch the brand by early to mid next fiscal. It has begun market feasibility study for the same as it had faced a debacle of its previous premium made-ups brand Rosebys.

R S Jalan, managing director of GHCL said that they have plans in place to gradually build their own brands in the domestic market; thereby creating a niche place for GHCL products.

Mimaki leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers and cutting machines for the sign/graphics, textile/apparel and industrial markets is all set to acquire La Meccanica Costruzione Tessilli, an Italian textile machine manufacturer as it would expand their position in the textiles printing market.

The acquisition was first mooted in July 2015, when an Italian sales agent introduced Mimaki to La Meccanica, a manufacturer of conventional and digital textile printing machines located in Bergamo, Italy established in 1977. It has 32 staff and a turnover of €6m (£4.6m).

Bangladesh amid growing demand for cheap clothing and the rest of the Asia disappointed in terms of export revenue in 2014, there was one surprising anomaly to the pattern – Bangladesh’s textile industry surged towards the end of 2015.

Bangladeshi export earnings levitated to $3.2bn last December, thereby setting a new record for the South Asian country. This phenomenal success can be attributed to Bangladesh’s growing apparel industry, which accounted for over 83 percent of December’s figures.

At least a few thousand more of the 33,000 powerloom units in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts were in deep debts, with interest mounting everyday. This situation, which is fast worsening is what has pushed them to decide to close down all their units in an indefinite strike from Thurday (January 28), said the Tirupur District Powerloom Job Working Units Owners Association president R Velusamy.

The 13th Dhaka International Textile and Garment Machinery Exhibition organized by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Taiwan's exhibition management firm Chan Chao International Company and Yorkers Trade and Marketing Service Company of Hong Kong will begin in Dhaka tomorrow where more than 1,000 textile equipment manufacturers from 34 countries, including Bangladesh, will display a variety of state-of-the-art textile and garment technologies and machinery, Tapan Chowdhury, president of BTMA, said at the association's office yesterday.

The Government of Pakistan in Trade Policy 2003-04, decided to setup three Garment Cities in Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad. The Provincial Government were to allocate land to set up these Garment Cities. KGC Project is 100 percent owned and funded by Government of Pakistan. National Assembly Standing Committee on Textile Industry under the chairmanship of Khawaja Ghulam Rasool Koreja, MNA met in Karachi on Tuesday to discuss the issue on allotment of land for the Karachi Garment City with the Land Utilisation Department, Government of Sindh.

In China, semi-dull FDY70D/24F prices were down US cents 5 a kg in the second week of January while FDY40D fell US cents 8 a kg.

Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices fell US cents 3-5 a kg while DTY 30D/10F prices rolled over on the week.

Monofilament 30D prices were stable while 1.5D staple fiber dipped US cents 4-9 a kg.

Nylon filament yarn prices continued to drift on low operating pressure on softening caprolactum and semi-dull nylon chips prices.
