Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) signed an MoU with Man Made Textile Research Association (MANTRA) on Tuesday for introducing in-line plasma treatment facility in the existing textile manufacturing process to improve that quality of textile processes in the country’s largest textile hubs - Surat.

MANTRA is a research organisation for fulfilling quality control needs of a growing textile industry in Surat and in South Gujarat.

Cotton market witnessed fresh buying interest by spinners and mills on Tuesday as the ginners have only two million bales of unsold stock, dealers said. In the ready business, around 5000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 4200-5800.

However, the official spot rate was down by Rs 50 to Rs 5,600 while in the Punjab, prices showed no change at Rs 3100 and Rs 3400, dealers said.

This year’s Source Africa known as the African Textile, Clothing and Footwear Trade Event to be held in South Africa next month where at least ten local companies will participate. The participation is aimed at exposing local clothing, textile and leather products to regional and international buyers as well to generate export orders, according to ZimTrade, the country’s export promotion body.

Source Africa is the largest trade exhibition in Africa brings together suppliers, buyers, manufacturers and service providers in one major integrated event.

Asian MEG markers were up US$5 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the third week of April. In China, central values surged US$30 a ton amid moderate buying interest.

Mono ethylene glycol prices in Asian markets were up on week on firmer crude and despite a day-on-day decline on Friday while downstream PET run rates were healthy.

In China, MEG market continued to rebound that week. However, the upward momentum was cut down significantly, as oil-producing countries did not reach a consensus on output freeze.

Sinopec's April MEG contract price was however, down from March.

Asian paraxylene prices gained US$13 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the third week of April.

Paraxylene prices declined on the first day and the last day of that week, but gained handsomely in between in Asian and European markets as crude prices firmed up.

Meanwhile, state-owned China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, or Sinopec, settled its April contract price up from its March settlement. Sinopec settled its April contract price for paraxylene which was up US$15 a ton from its March settlement.
