KPFDAC to organize Fashion Week to promote women entrepreneurs

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Fashion Design and Arts Council (KPFDAC) to promote the products of women entrepreneurs and rich Pakhtun culture and traditions have announced to organize a Fashion Week. The announcement was made by KPFDAC Chairperson, Muhammad Waqas Ahmad, while addressing at a news conference at press club, here on Wednesday.

The basic purpose of organizing Fashion Week is to develop a soft image of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the world, besides to provide opportunity to women entrepreneurs to exhibit and promote their handicrafts and develop market linkages.

Acrylonitrile price rises in Asia, US

The acrylonitrile markers gained US$20 a ton CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia in the third week of April. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were up US$20 a ton on the week. Prices for deep‐sea cargoes were below that level.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets rose for the second consecutive week on tight supply, which led to renewed buying interest from buyers and firmer cost support.

In China, downstream demand picked up a bit as run rate at ASF producers was close to 100% while acrylamide prices held flat amid mild demand.

Tirupur sees growth in its garment exports by 16.3% in FY16

Tirupur, the main hub for knitwear in the country witnessed growth in its garment exports by 16.3 percent to Rs23,050 crore in fiscal year 2016. It contributes nearly 90% of total cotton knitwear exported from the country.

A Sakthivel, President of Tirupur exporters association opined that exports from Tirupur would sustain growth in the current fiscal too following good demand from EU and this can be doubled if the Free Trade agreement (FTA) is finalized.

They have seen growth in Europe and getting new buyers. Exports can jump to Rs.50,000 crore if the FTA with EU is in place.

Indonesia and Saudi Arabia see a lot of potential for expansion, especially Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest potential markets for Indonesia in the Middle East. Hence the two countries has agreed to double their bilateral trade value by 2020.

Trade Ministry expert for trade services Arlinda Imbang Jaya said that the total trade between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia amounted to US$8.5 billion in 2015. Indonesian exports to Saudi Arabia amounted to $3.35 billion in 2015, while imports were worth $5.14 billion.

Minister of State Mirza Azam placed the draft law of new Jute Bill 2016 in parliament for endorsement and replacing Bangladesh’s 54 year old jute law on behalf of Minister of Textiles and Jute Imazuddin Pramanik on Wednesday.

It has been referred to the house committee on the textile and jute ministry for review.

The government will be able to create a fund for the improvement of jute and jute products according to the new proposed law.

The new proposed law will empower government to collect data on the purchase and sale of any special product manufactured from jute fibre.

Zambian cotton farmers through training programme get boost

A programme was organized by the International Trade Centre (ITC), as part of a project funded by the European Union and financed by the United Kingdom that empowered about 40 cotton farmers with value addition skills to improve their crop through a comprehensive farmer-training programme in Mumbwa.

The participants, mostly women, acquired life skills to help them process cotton into lint, yarn and potentially artisanal products.

Over 300,000 small-scale cotton farmers in Eastern, Muchinga, Central, Lusaka and Southern provinces earn income for their livelihoods from the crop.

Chinese cotton stocks to fall 5-year low as govt auctions its huge reserves

The International Cotton Advisory Committee forecast that the policy of Chinese government auctions to off load its huge cotton reserves, and import limitations, will shrink Chinese cotton stocks by 7% in 2015-16, and a further 10% in 2016-17. Chinese cotton stocks will fall to a five-year low.

The sharp decline in Chinese imports, and falling domestic production, will help draw down stocks even as Chinese demand falls.

According to the US Department of Agriculture forecast China's cotton stocks to fall by 6 percent in 2015-16, to 13.9m tones.

Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) signed an MoU with Man Made Textile Research Association (MANTRA) on Tuesday for introducing in-line plasma treatment facility in the existing textile manufacturing process to improve that quality of textile processes in the country’s largest textile hubs - Surat.

MANTRA is a research organisation for fulfilling quality control needs of a growing textile industry in Surat and in South Gujarat.
