Tunisia that already ranks as the fifth-largest apparel supplier to Europe and the number two supplier for the French market, according to Tunisia's Foreign Investment Promotion Agency with textile and apparel exports totaled TD6.5bn (€2.9bn) in 2014 is now looking for talks on a new deal with the EU, its biggest trading partner, to pave the way for improved access to European markets, while opportunities to boost trade with Pakistan are also showing signs of promise as impact of global economic situation weighing on trading volumes.

Arvind, textile to retail conglomerate that is currently carrying out due diligence of the online fashion and lifestyle brand is in talks with Sequoia Capital-funded ecommerce company to acquire Freecultr, to become the latest brickand-mortar store operator to snap up troubled online ventures. The deal is expected in the coming months.

Freecultr will be acquired by Arvind Internet, the conglomerate's online arm that is spearheaded by Kulin Lalbhai, son of chairman Sanjay Lalbhai.

Blended yarn price rises in Asian markets

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices were up US cents 3 a kg in the last week of April while 45s PC combed yarn prices rolled over on the week. In China, the market was slowly recovering due to continuous fall in cotton prices from excessively levels.

In India, blended yarn prices rose on the domestic market due to recovery of cotton prices. In Ludhiana, polyester-cotton yarn prices increased 3% on the week.

30s (65/35) PV warp yarn prices further gained INR1 a kg (up US cent 1) in Indore market. In Ludhiana, PC 30s (52/48) prices jumped INR5 a kg (up US cents 6).

Viscose yarn price declines amid thin trading in China

In China, prices of 40s compact sirospun yarn in Jiangsu rolled over in the last week of April while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan fell US cents 2 a kg. Offers for ring-spun 30s yarn declined US cents 4 a kg on the week.

Viscose yarn prices sustained the weakness of recent weeks as upstream VSF prices were under correction. Thus, spun yarn prices were dismal amid thin trading.

Offers in China declined, despite textile industry was slowly recovering in the past months due to continuous fall of cotton prices from high levels.

Lint price remained overall firm on average volumes past week

With firm physical prices, lint trading remained fair as fine grades were in focus. The official spot rate remained firm at Rs 5,650 per maund while cottonseed prices in Sindh stood around at Rs 3,250 per maund and Rs 3,375 per maund and in Punjab rates stayed at Rs 3,450 and Rs 3,625 per maund, traders said.

Due to better arrival of cottonseed and ginners sped up their deliveries in anticipating increase in demand in the near future keeping the economic activities firm floor brokers said.

With textile and apparel exports from the East Asian giant China and start-ups Cambodia and Vietnam declining at least in the United States, but the opportunity is moving up in South Asia. In India it has increased by 15.3 percent in March compared with exports of same items in February 2015. Bangladesh recorded an export increase of 7.8 percent during the same period while Pakistan’s exports in textiles and apparel increased by 8.8 percent.
