Dialogues with European Union had been revived to get the Free Trade Agreement between India and EU signed at the earliest. This would give an impetus to exports from the country, Rashmi Verma, Union Secretary (Textiles), said at the inaugural of the 42nd India Knit Fair. The main attraction of the India Knit Fair this time is the participation of a foreign garment manufacturer from Nepal displaying both knitwear and woven products.

Mian Rehman Aziz, Regional Chairman and Vice President of the FPCCI during his meeting with Dr Joao Paulo Sabido Costa, Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan at the FPCCI Regional Office Lahore on Wednesday said that Portugal comes at the eighth place among the top exporting destinations and at 12th place among the top importing member states of the European Union. ASF price rolls over in Asian markets

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices were steady in the last week of April.

Anqing Petrochemical and Qilu Petrochemical nominated 1.5D cotton-type fiber at 12.45 Yuan a kg (US$1.93 a kg) and 12.05 Yuan a kg (US$1.87 a kg), respectively.

Acrylic staple fibre prices rolled over firmly given the rise in acrylonitrile cost and stable downstream demand.

Downstream buyers mainly covered their immediate requirements due to thin orders while overall market atmosphere was just modest.

Acrylonitrile prices surge amid tight supply

The acrylonitrile markers gained US$20 a ton CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia in the last week of April.

In China, offers for offshore cargoes were up US$40 a ton CFR China on the week. Prices for deep‐sea cargoes were below that level.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets rose on the week as supply was still tight with few deepsea offers. Upstream, propylene cost was also on the rise supporting downstream sector.

Prices continued to track higher across all markets. In China, spot prices held firm that week and majors offered flat.

Blended yarns export sees uptrend, value up 4.8%

India’s blended spun yarns export value was up 4.8 per cent YoY in March 2016 while volumes rose 10.6 per cent as compared to the same month last year.

Polyester cottons yarns were exported to 51 countries in March, of which, Egypt and Bangladesh were the largest importers of PC yarn from India followed by Morocco. 6.7 million kg of total PC yarns was exported from India during the month.

Honduras, Spain, Sri Lanka and Germany were the fastest growing markets for PC yarns while Peru significantly reduced its import of PC yarns from India.

The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFida) likely to give a green signal to the commercialization of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) in the fourth quarter of 2016. PhilFida Executive Director Clarito M. Barron said that under the new joint department circular (JDC), there are already revised guidelines for the impact assessment of every genetically modified (GM) crop on the environment. The multi location field trials of Bt cotton have concluded.

Mohit Industries Limited, a leading Indian manufacturer of fabrics and texturised yarn has received sanction for a term loan of ₹18 crore to fund its expansion plans at its existing unit at Kim, near Surat.

The total project cost of the expansion is ₹24 crore. Construction work for the first phase will be completed by end of this month and installation of machinery is expected by next month. The company plans to install eight texturising machines in a new building at its 2.5 lakh sq ft facility in Kim.
