Lenzing signs cooperation agreement with Woolmark Company

The Lenzing Group, Lenzing, Austria cellulosic fibre manufacturer, signed a cooperation agreement with the Woolmark Company, Sydney, Australia, to partnership between the lyocell fiber TINCEL® and Merino wool so that the fiber duo introduces a new dimension to high-end textiles and active wear.

TENCEL is of botanic origin and offers moisture management properties while Merino wool is a protein fiber that is fine and glossy. The two fibers together have already recorded a large number of successes and the blend is popular among customers in Europe and the U.S.

Taiwanese textile industry need to develop into a complete supply chain and compete through quality instead of quantity as it is hard to compete with China through quantity, said Taiwan Man-Made Fiber Industries Association (TMMFA) chairman Hou Po-ming on Wednesday.

According to the latest industry data China controls 73 percent of the global chemical fiber market share while Taiwan only holds 2.9 percent.

With opportunities lie in high-end functional fabrics and other smart applications, the industry could make use of global trends in sports and leisure activities.

The thriving viscose staple fibre (VSF)-based textile industry, which is facing the heat of increased dumping from China and Indonesia, has warned that any tampering with the existing anti-dumping duty structure will affect its growth.

As the viscose-based textile industry has shown a remarkable growth in the last five years, reflecting the spirit of Make in India initiative.

The existing anti-dumping duties, imposed in 2010, are up for review shortly and a section of the textile industry is calling for ending duty protection, citing rising input cost.

Polyester yarn price falls in China, up in India

In Shengze, offers for 32s polyester yarn fell US cents 2 a kg in the second week of April and 45s were down US cents 4 a kg. In Qiangqing, offers for 32s were stable during the week.

Spun polyester yarns markets were stable amid moderate enquiries and sales. However, offers moderated somewhat in Shengze while they were stable in Qiangqing amid scarce demand and no bulk deals.

PTA price moves up in Asia

Asian PTA markers were up US$5-8 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast in the second week of April. In China, trading values inched down US$8 a ton, while the sales volume expanded. Yisheng Petrochemical issued daily cash-based price for PTA was unchanged.

Launch of various schemes TUFS, SITP to strengthen country's textile sector

Minister of State(Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Textiles Santosh Kumar Gangawar in a reply during question hour in the Lok Sabha informed today that government has launched Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme(TUFS), Schemes for the development of the Powerloom sector, Schemes for Technical textiles, Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks(SITP) and Integrated Skill Development Scheme.

He said that the production of textiles and garments was predominantly in the private sector. Therefore, the government does not prescribe targets for the textile and garment Industry.

Diversified group Reliance Industries (RIL) which is engaged in textile business and also into synthetic fibre manufacturing, has partnered with Star Cotspin Limited, Bhilwara based leading manufacturer and exporter of sewing thread in India having shown the fastest growth in recent years.

As per the agreement, RIL’s Recron SHT will be the basic substrate for polyester sewing threads manufactured by Star Cotspin. This yarn will then be sold, cobranded with Recron SHT.

WTOs elimination of cotton export subsidies to benefit Indian cotton exports

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India on Wednesday providing clarification with regard to export subsidies for cotton said that the World Trade Organisation's 2015 Nairobi Ministerial has taken decision to eliminate export subsidies on cotton will benefit Indian shipments of the crop as India is not a user of export subsidies for cotton.

It will create a level playing field for farmers, who were not entitled for it but other developed countries were providing the same as scheduled, as per the rules.
