The Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras to sell its petrochemicals units PetroquimicaSuape and Citepe in the north-eastern state of Pernambuco, for which they are in talks with the Mexican group Alpek SA de CV a chemical manufacturing company, who is expected to offer up to $700 million.

The Brazilian company and Alpek will negotiate the deal for 60 days.

Petrobras' petrochemical units have accumulated 5.6 billion reais ($1.7 billion) in losses over the last two years, which included impairment charges related to the largest-ever corruption probe in Brazil.

Vietnam textile and apparel sector posted export revenue of only US$12.76 billion in the first six months, growing 4.72% year-on-year representing just 41% of the full-year target. Blended yarn prices were supported by the rising cost of cotton while VSF prices has risen sharply in the past few weeks. In China, PC and PV yarns were dearer by US cents 4-7 a kg on the week.

In Jiangsu, 40s compact sirospun yarn prices were up US cents 13 a kg in the third week of July while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan was up US cents 8 a kg on the week. Offers for ring-spun 40s yarn were up US cents 8 a kg on the week. Spun viscose yarn prices increased sharply on the week in China in line with the hike in VSF values. Offers for siro‐spun, compact and ring‐spun ascended by US cents 8-13 a kg on the week. Trading prices and volumes also picked up as inventory at yarn makers were digested as a result.
