Tirupur garment sector hit hard by increase in hosiery yarn prices

Garment makers in Tirupur have urged textile mills in their region to drop the move on increasing prices of hosiery yarn as cotton prices are cooling off. Cotton prices have come down by Rs 2000 per candy (about 355kg) and in this scenario, the inclination of mills to increase cotton yarn prices will totally affect the Tirupur garment export sector, said A Sakthivel, president, Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA).

Hosiery yarn prices, which were ruling at Rs 216 per kg in April, are now quoting at around Rs.250 per kg after three rounds of price increases.

Garment retailers in India have started gradually shifting from the maximum retail price regime (MRP) to fixed price regime after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, while announcing the Union Budget 2016-17, announced a 2% levy of excise duty on garments and made ups with retail price of over Rs 1,000.

Nylon yarn price recovers in Asia

In China, semi-dull FDY70D/24F prices were up US cents 3 a kg in the third week of July while FDY40D were up US cents 8 a kg. Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices rose US cents 3 a kg while 30D/10F rolled over on the week. Nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices up US cents 10 a kg while monofilament 30D prices were stable during the week.

Nylon filament yarn prices marched higher to cover existing losses amid firmer raw materials. Yarn makers cut operating rate while buyers made marginal replenishment, contributing to better demand/supply balance.

Caprolactum price becomes dearer in Asia

Asian caprolactum markers, the SE and FE were up US$20 a ton in the third week of July which ended on 22nd July 2016. In China, offers for liquid spot were up US$50 a ton while solid goods offers also rose US$50 a ton on the week. Sinopec raised its July nomination which was up US$35 a ton for liquid goods while Fibrant’s July nomination were stable for liquid goods.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu addressing an inaugural ceremony of the three-day apparel exposition arranged by the country`s fashion designer in the capital’s National Museum auditorium on Sunday said that Bangladesh will soon secure the top position in the world in Ready Made Garments (RMG) sector.

The RMG sector is a very important sector in the economy of Bangladesh and now stands second position in exporting RMG.

In the programme, he underscored the need for making skilled manpower to sustain the development of Ready Made Garments sector of the country.

Ganesha Ecosphere, manufacturers of greige and dyed, texturised, doubled and twisted yarns for knitting and weaving applications, from virgin and recycled polyester. They have decided to increase its installed capacity by setting up another production line of Recycled Polyester Staple Fibre (RPSF).

The company plans to increase the capacity of its unit situated at Temra, Bilaspur, Rampur district in the state of Uttar Pradesh by 21,000 tons per annum (TPA), making consolidated RPSF capacity of the company to 1,08,600 TPA.
