MEG price declines in Asia, Europe

Asian MEG prices edged down US$4 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the last week of July. In China, offers for nearby-month were pegged at US$620-625 a ton, and counter offers were at US$615-620 a ton. Bonded goods and forward-month were US$5 a ton higher over nearby-month goods.

Mono ethylene glycol spot prices and futures declined on profit taking, despite spot cargoes traded up opening the week and peaking on Thursday before retreating by weekend. In China, MEG markets were in fluctuation that week, with domestic and import cargo prices down from previous week.

Paraxylene price falls across all regions

Asian paraxylene prices fell US$27 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the last week of July. Paraxylene prices in Asian markets plunged weekend and on the week as downstream PTA markets was sluggish while August contract prices of major producers were lowered.

Meanwhile, mixed xylene market gradually widened from flat to a contango while spot prices remained unchanged amid thin liquidity. Demand for orthoxylene was sluggish as downstream still weak.

Nylon yarn price climbs in Asia

In China, semi-dull FDY70D/24F prices were up US cents 2-3 a kg in the last week of July while FDY40D were stable during the week. Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices were up US cents 5 a kg while 30D/10F rose US cents 8 a kg on the week. Nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices were flat while monofilament 30D prices were steady during the week.

Caprolactum price jumps on tight supply

Asian caprolactum markers, the SE and FE were unchanged in the last week of July. In China, offers for liquid spot were up US$50 a ton while solid goods offers rose US$20 a ton on the week.

Caprolactum prices edged up further that week on moderate demand and tight supply in China, while other markers rolled over. CPL producers reduced operating rate and pushed for higher prices. In China, liquid CPL offers in spot market were quoted higher while discussions followed through.

Anti-dumping duty on PTA to crush MMF sector of Surat

Surat, India's largest man-made fabric (MMF) hub to be adversely affected by the decision of Government of India's finance ministry to impose definitive anti-dumping duty on purified terephthalic acid (PTA) imports from China, Iran, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia.

As per the government notification, the PTA imports from China, Iran, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia will attract duty ranging from $85.67 per tonne to $168.76 per tonne. The high import duty will prevent small spinners in Surat and other places in the country from importing PTA, main raw material for manufacturing of yarn.

In International market cotton was traded at 77 cents from 62 cents three months ago, a rise by 24.19 percent due to a fall in supplies by China and India, two major cotton producers and consumers. Six months ago the price was below 60 cents, according to industry insiders.

According to Hissam Khandker, director of Delcot Enterprise Ltd, a leading cotton importer of Bangladesh, it is a short-term hike. He hopes that the price will start declining from November when new crops will be available in markets.

The Exporters Union also announced preparations for launching a series of exhibitions in a number of Iranian cities in some productive sectors which are marketable in the Iranian markets. To start with, an exhibition of textile products will be held next September.

English Fine Cottons (EFC) is bringing cotton spinning to Manchester after a near 30 year hiatus. It has restored a mill in Dukinfield, to the east of Manchester, that was built in 1853 and stopped spinning a century later. A 56m-long cotton-spinning line takes up the entire top floor after growing international demand for high quality British textiles.

The £5.8m project is expected to create 120 jobs over the next 18 months. The initial capacity will be 500 tonnes a year, a tiny fraction of UK demand, but there are hopes for rapid growth.

ITME 2016 to launch as many as 25 new products benefiting textile industry

At the 10th India International Textile Machinery Exhibition (ITME) to be held in Mumbai in December this year as many as 25 new products will be launched which would benefit the entire textile industry, include eight for the spinning sector, seven for processing and nine for weaving, said Chairman of India ITME 2016, Sanjiv Lathia.

Apart from new products, 162 new companies, including 32 from abroad, will participate and showcase their products at the six-day event beginning December 3.
