Special Advance Authorization scheme announced to boost apparel exports

As India expects its textile and apparel exports to touch USD 50 billion mark this fiscal from USD 38 billion in 2015-16. The Union Cabinet recently approved a Rs 6,000-crore package for the textiles sector with an aim to create one crore new jobs in three years and attract investments of USD 11 billion.

To further boost apparel exports, government has announced a ‘Special Advance Authorization’ scheme allowing duty-free import of fabric which will come into effect from September 1.

The National Agriculture Export Board (NAEB) and Heworks Rwanda Silk Ltd, a Korean-based private company have signed an MoU to improve silk production and boost silk industry in Rwanda. According to the 10-year MoU signed on Tuesday to focus on the production of raw silk, silk yarn and other silk products as well as purchasing of fresh cocoons produced from sericulture farmers by the Korean company.

Indian textiles sector likely to get hurt by TPP

Textile and clothing sector accounts for roughly 5 percent of India’s GDP, 15 percent of its industrial output and export earnings and provides livelihood support to 55-60 million people directly or indirectly. With India not a party to the Transpacific Partnership Pact (TPP) comprising Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam, and the US. TPP will hurt India’s trade with its most important export market — the US.

Polyester yarn price rolls over in Asian markets

In Shengze, offers for 32s polyester yarn were unchanged in the last week of July and 45s were stable on the week.

Polyester spun yarn prices were stable in China, India and Pakistan that week, although cotton yarn prices surged significantly. In Shengze, markets were stable and offers for spun polyester yarn 32s and 45s were flat amid moderate demand.

In India, prices of polyester yarn were kept steady that week in spite of lackluster sales situation. Polyester yarn 30 knit yarn prices were flat in Ludhiana market and steady in Indore.

PTA price moves down on weak demand

Asian PTA markers were down US$3 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia in the last week of July. In China, offers fell gradually to below US$610 a ton, and counter offers fell below US$600 a ton, with discussions stalemated.

Yisheng Petrochemical’s offer were at US$610-615 a ton while Hengli Petrochemical issued self-lifting offer were at US$630-640 a ton.

Government’s decision to ban Chinese manja comes as welcome news

Demand to remove anti-dumping duty on yarn is being raised from various circles including Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA), Malegaon Industries and Manufacturers Association (MIMA), Bhiwandi Powerloom Federation and other organisations working for the industry. Also Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi making a strong appeal to the government to remove anti-dumping duty on synthetic yarn, on Wednesday said that the government's 'Make in India' policy is proving disastrous for the local textile industry.
